(My last thread on this as well as ~80 of my posts are inexplicably missing or were deleted without any form of notice sent to me? WTF???)
(Trying to make this as similar to the last thread as possible)
Filing cabinets are very simple.
They act like chests but open horizontally rather than vertically, meaning that they can be stacked on top of each other or have other blocks placed on top of them.
Filing cabinets do not 'fuse together' when placed next to each other, meaning that each filing cabinet always acts as a small chest.
Each filing cabinet will have 27 storage spaces (the same as a small chest)
Filing cabinets should be crafted like chests, but with iron.
Like so: = one filing cabinet
The difference is that you can have 3 or more side by side and you can stack them as high as you want, while still being able to open all of them.
I know you did not see my edit, but still. What's the point? It's a couple iron boxes in the corner that act like chests.
I think it's much easier just to make a storage room full of chests, it looks cooler and serves the same purpose.
Plus, it doesn't really save that much space.
If memory serves, you can only reach about 5 blocks? And it's much harder to look up and click a cabinet 5 blocks above you than to face forward and click a chest. So you can only stack up to five, and if they don't connect and you forget which item went where, then you have to look through every single cabinet, making it inefficient.
@Neospector
For every set of two chests, you need to leave a block of space before you start the next.
And even if it isn't 'a lot', sometimes even one block makes a big difference.
If it sounds inconvenient to you, you don't need to use them.
It really sounds like your issue here is with asthetics rather than function, though.
Perhaps wooden drawers with metal accents?

(For clarification: the linked image is the real-world equivalent of 3 filing cabinets stacked on top of each other.)
Thoughts? Comments? Etc?
Beside vertical stacking which is rather pointless.
[quote=Badgerz]You have to keep in mind that people are stupid.
[quote=Catelite]Just because you don't understand how something works, doesn't make it broken or pointless. >_<

In response to your edit: vertical stacking saves room.
A lot of room depending on how much storage space you require.

@Flannelboy
Yeah, drawers I suppose.
Intel Core i3 550 @ 3.2 GHz, 6GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT430 1GB, 700GB Hard drive, Windows 7 ( Yeah my computer isn't the best XD)
And does anyone have a link for a banner-making website?
It seems that is the next logical step in this discussion.
