It's basic. When eating the player should emit a sound which would logically devour the food being eating. I thought when 1.8 came out with the eating animation, I would logically think that their would be some sound to the food, I was disappointed when playing. So now, since it's a PR, I say that the eating edible items should display sound.
Affecting
This would affect all foods which give the eating animation:
-Bread, Melon Slices, Apples, Golden Apples, Cookies and Cake***.
-Pork, Steak, Chicken, Rotting flesh and Fish.
- Milk Buckets, Glass vials (w/ water)* and potions**.
*They give the "chewing" animation. They would probably give off the sound of gulping or water.
**Same sound as Glass vials (w/ water)
***It would need to be short, because as far as I know, you right click on cake and you eat it.

I'm not turning in my sleep because my character doesn't make sounds when he eats lol.
I rather have them focus on expanding the creative elements of the game.
sound really adds to the atmosphere of games. The world would sound rather weird if you didn't make noises while walking, like Steve is actually a genie, who hovers along a few inches of the ground. So eating noises would just be a nice atmosphere enhancer.

I turn it up every now and then, but it comes to the point where there's so little to listen for, so I just turn it off.
