we should have some more furnature for example:
refrigerator: works like chest, looks like fridge, and gets doubled by placing a second one on top, not beside
Cabinets: just like chests but can be opened from front, still functional, even with block above it
Barbecue/kitchen stove: works exactly like furnace, but different textures and shapes
electric lights that can be directly toggled with redstone circuits
any other ideas???
Electric lights is about the only think I like. Minecraft is about using your head and creativity to make things, not having individual items. I can make a BBQ With bricks, some netherrack, and iron bars, fridge I can make from an iron block and buttons. To make a cabinet, use trapdoors or fence gates over a hole in the wall.
I'm all for building and creativity but there is no way to make a functional chest other then the regilar recipe. Perhaps the creativity can come out with slight changes to the recipe to make diffrerent items for example:
different colored wool in the bed recipes yield different colored beds
some iron mixed in with the furnace receipe can yield a stove
iron placed in as part of the chest recipe yields fridge
I still love creating my own furnature if it doesnt need a functional purpose, this is just a suggestion

Is there a specific reason you think this? I can't see any reason this would be flat-out impossible to code.
Oh, wait, you mean it's impossible to fudge yourself a chest-like thing the way Strottinglemon was saying. I get you. Very good point.

This is a very good suggestion and I hope to see some of this variety in Minecraft proper. In the meantime, we're planning much of this thread in our upcoming Harvest Moon mod.
Functional Alternatives to Chests
At minimum, an Icebox, Cupboard, and Dresser (or Closet). They work very much as described by the original poster. The Icebox works like a retextured Chest, but the Cupboard and Dresser open to the front, so you can set blocks on top of them without making them inaccessible.
If included in the vanilla game, they'd provide some visual variety. Our brains like to map differences, and a room full of identical chests can get tiring; if you stuck all your food in the Icebox, all your clothes/armor and leather in the Dresser, and so forth, it'd be a little easier to keep track of where things are.
The Oven
I frankly can't think of a decent reason to include a different Furnace in vanilla Minecraft, except for, again, some visual variety (or realism, if you prefer).
There does seem to be a natural progression from a stone furnace to an iron furnace, but I'm not sure of a good way to make use of this tech barrier.
The Oven in our mod, however, is a way to set kitchen utensils (a Pot and Frying Pan) to the side and concentrate on the ingredients in the list. It's a useful tech barrier for our purposes, but, again, I'm not sure how useful this might be to Minecraft proper.

I aggree entirely. For icebox, make a square of planks around a block of snow (would it be possible to add dacay to food?)
For cupboard, do the above recipe, but with a trapdoor instead
For display case, make a bookshelf recipe with glass panes instead of books (6 storage slots)
For oven, make a furnace with iron instead of cobble. To keep balance, allow to smeltings to happen at once.
Deskmake with 3 logs and 2 sticks. Allows crafting and 27 slots of storage
Chair: craft with 3 wool and 2 sticks. Allows you to sit
Bunk bed-craft like bed, but with 2sticks on top. You can stack them in inventory, and legitimately place them in pillars.

I support RedPower, Buildcraft, and the suggestions minetrains, minecart controls, locks and keys, and thechest or recieving.

Saying "there's a mod for that" is a warnable offense. Please read the rules before posting. Thanks.
