I don't know who else has this problem but I get easily lost in Mine shafts and sometimes just caves. Especially after being underground for a while. Leaving a trail of blocks can help but after being underground a while you tend to forget what the mean or why they are there. I had a quick idea what if you could dye string and tie it to torches so as you place torches with the same color string on them the if there in a certain range the string will connect from one torch to the other. I think it would at least be a good mod. What do you think?
It'd make a great addition in my opinion. Though I'm not sure if it can be done in the game. Would help with the systems that have multiple turns and intersections.

It sounds quite complicated but I definitely think something is needed to help navigate mines, like you I get lost very easily. I think you have the right idea in not opting for a map because I don't see how it would be feasible to have a 3D map. Perhaps you should be able to craft arrow signs which can be placed similar to normal signs but are used more specifically for the use of finding your way back out of a mine with minimal effort.
I solve this by always placing torches on the left wall when I explore further into areas. That way, I know I'm headed out when I have torches on my right.
Hey! What i usually do is putting the torches on the right side of the wall! Then i always now when i have the torches on the left side of me i am going to the exit :tongue.gif: hope it helped :biggrin.gif:
