When I searched, I found nothing relevant to this idea.

Filing Cabinets are pretty simple.
They act like chests, but they open horizontally instead of vertically and so can be stacked on top of each other or have blocks placed on top of them.
They do not 'fuse together' when stacked, rather each cabinet will always act like a small chest.
Each filing cabinet will have 27 storage spaces (the same as a small chest).

They should be crafted like chests, but with iron.
Like so:

(For clarification: The linked image is the real-world equivalent of three of these filing cabinets stacked on top of each other)


Thoughts? Comments? Links to a thread I overlooked?

That would make a Minecraft parody of The Office so much easier.

perhaps they should be lockable, or in some way stronger than normal chests...something like that? just an idea.

Locking any form of storage in a game like minecraft is hard to do without creating more problems than solutions - so I'm going to say no to that...

As for being stronger: Maybe the blast resistance could be upped or something, not that it would really change anything gameplay-wise.

Just a thought: Can anyone think of a reason to NOT add this?

This would come in so much handy, and why should this not be added to the game, it's a great idea.

I like it quite a bit, tired of losing space due to chests being rather difficult to organize efficiently.

So far it seems as if everyone likes this idea.
I guess the next step is to get a banner or something like that...
Does anyone remember the site that mojang actually looks at for suggestions?
