I think it would be really nice if there were a setting when creating a server to choose the amount of caves / mines you would like. These could go hand in hand, or each have their own setting. It could be as simple as low/medium/high. I'm not sure how the random generation works, but I believe it shouldn't be too hard to make this change.
Don't get me wrong, I love exploring caves and abandoned mine shafts! But when I could, essentially, just dig a hole in a random spot and land in a cave it takes some of the excitement out. Personally, I would like finding a cave to be like a little achievement in itself, I want to have to explore further and find caves away from my main town, for different mining outposts.
If this is implemented, I think it should be for multilayer servers as well.
*As a side note I'd like to add the the random generation for abandoned mine shafts could be tweeked some, as of now if they run through a ravine, or large cave there's floating support beams and they seem to go in very random directions... noting like what an actual miner would have set up. But perhaps that can be looked at another time :wink.gif:

I do like this suggestion, because each level of cave generation has its ups and downs. Right now, huge cave systems can be dangerous, what with all the mobs you need to watch out for. They seem like more of a pain than a gain.
