I was wondering if it's possible to have simple (pressure plate, couple restone, and TNT/piston/dispenser) traps generated with the world? I think this would give abandoned hallways a more dangerous feel. Maybe the mines can have a cave in trap? Have a bunch of gravel above a TNT block and fwoom. Nether can have boobytraps in the long hallways. Maybe a few blocks move and try to crush you, or pretend metal bars are spikes and pistons move them down on you.
On the plus side if the player spots a pressure plate in time, they can disarm/dismantle/gather the parts it was made of. This'd help with gathering TNT/pistons/dispensers, a pretty nice reward I think.
Or of course there's the 'make trap blocks' option :smile.gif:
I don't really think that the world has pre-generated traps, Notch hasn't implemented such a feature into the world generator, However, with modding it can be done!
Making pre-generated traps would be pretty coolio Notch should do that.

what, cave spiders dropping on your head unexpectedly isn't adrenaline pumping enough for ya?

Since we are talking about traps, why not traps with a timer to activate? You enter in an abandoned mine, step in a pressure plate... and start listening to the water, coming apparently through nowhere. The noise is getting stronger, so you have a measure of how long you have to do something or get screwed by a sudden inundation...

or lava... you see the sudden light, but dont know where its coming from
This is what's cool about the suggestions section.
Peoples' ideas sort of reflect off of each other, and we get some progression to something really interesting.
Abandoned mine shafts have their spiders, I say there should be temple-like areas underground that yield exactly this sort of booby trap.
Exactly! I mean, fortresses/nether fortresses can have em too, but it'd be funny to come upon some sort of Indiana Jones Lost Ark room. Maybe even have a new kind of pressure plate that lets you place an item on it.
Another plus I feel is that players can not only collect the materials, but also dig around the trap to examine how it works. Sorta teachers new players redstone :smile.gif:
Edit: haha I missed the Goonies comment, that was another movie I was thinking of. Have boobytraps that make the floor drop from under you and spikes at the bottom. The death message can be '/name/ didn't have the Pinchers of Power. Oh man, imagine dispenser blocks that can be camouflaged as dirt or stone? Shooting darts out at people. But they'd still have the little hole in the front so you can spot them if you'e paying attention.

now you're talking.
i was in disagreement of the OP for booby traps. but if theres a temple or other(biome?) created for just that, it would fit nicely.
it might even go well with the shipwreck biome (another mega-post). ever see the goonies?
