I was exploring my single player world, making my series of shelters, traversing obstacles, building random bridges and tunnels between shelters... and I came upon the grasslands. Large open plains filled with tall grass... but not too tall to see over. It was a nice safe place to be. I could see any monsters coming from a great distance, and plenty of grass to get seeds for farming. Then I had a thought...
Snakes in the grass. In the grasslands biome, have a chance of spawning a snake when you break grass (2% chance or less). The snake's bite causes a poison effect (similar to disease) that slowly drops your health for 3 bars over 30 seconds.
I think it would be a nice, surprising and challenging addition to minecraft.
I support!
Well in most biomes, monsters have the advantage of cover. A creeper might be coming at you from behind that tree, or around that corner, or jump down on you from up on that hill... but you don't have that problem with grasslands. Adding a small chance of a monster popping up on you from either clearing or running through tall grass in that biome would fix that.

well, officially, that is a good idea, but it would be better if u give it a more detailed description.
