Biomes are now more obvious and bigger, thanks to the 1.8 update. But, biomes are getting boring. Oceans are full of water but not much else. Mountains are big and look awesome but are lame. Forests not much different from tundra. Plains, not even a single tree!
So I thought of this. Biome overlapping!
Lets say you have a map of the biomes in a Minecraft world. Tundra biomes are white and mountain biomes are black. At the point of the map where they overlap, you get a biome that is grey in color. Glaciers!
The list of biome overlapping:
Tundra + Mountains = Glacier
Ocean + Mountains = Trench (Underwater Ravines)
Desert + Mountains = Volcano (Stony mountains with some lava in a crater on top of it)
Ocean + Desert = Shallows ( Places where water only one block deep and bottom is sand with some islands)
Ocean + Tundra = Cold Deserts ( Snow blocks on top of ice on top of water)
Ocean + Forest = Group of islands ( Islands quite small but like 5-10 blocks of water apart)
Swamp + Desert = Reed Forest (Should be small)
Biomes are one entire thing. Mixing them isn't actually mixing them, it's like creating an entire new biome. That means that there are 9 biomes currently, each one must overlap with another at one point. Which means that there is just about 36 new types of biomes created when they overlap, possibly more if I miscounted or misread.
Now, Minecraft does need new biomes. But certainly not this many.
This is not even going into the idea that three biomes can overlap at one point.
I don't really mean that all biomes can overlap each other. Only some can.
And I totally agree with you. Too much biomes can cause epic confusion.
These new biomes should be small too.
And another one:
Tundra + Mountain + Ravine (Not really a biome, but where it should be) = Crevasses!
Maybe there should be one large biome and mini biomes are placed in special locations based off of terrain. What I mean by this is, the main large biome makes large patches of field, forest etc. the mini biome adds mountains, ravines, all the special features. The large biome would inherently fuse opposing colors together at borderlines.
This is a good idea in order to fade from one Biome to another with out it just being desert then suddenly swamp with a little grass discoloration.
The Ocean Biomes are kind of annoying because you cant do much in them until you've already established yourself in the world, then they are HUGE and no matter what you do or make there will still be a TON of room. Oceans could use a bit of fade in and fade out. Maybe even some more islands....WITH TREES....it sucks to spawn on an island in the ocean with no trees!
"Forests not much different from tundra." - This is false. A forest is green and full of trees. A tundra is a snowy frozen waste, What game are you looking at?
As to the suggestion, Minecraft could use new biomes. This is not a particularly good way to implement that.

That's all for my suggestion!
