Well, most of us have made a lava "spa" underground, but what if we had pumps?
It could be a simple block that you can walk through, like plants.
You would have to place it 'around' the water or lava source, and said liquid would be pumped upwards until the pumps are no longer present.
This could allow for aquaducts etc.
While I'd love a way to transport water, I'm unsure about the way pumps will end up working. I like the idea, I just think that it could be prettier than chunks of water flying vertically through the air.
When real water transfer is implemented, (actual moving of water blocks, not just multiplication into empty space.) I'd probably find a bucket item most reasonable. This would ideally allow you to carry water, one block at a time, to another location and dump it out.
It might not be as life-changing as a pump that does everything automatically, but I like to think that limitation promotes creativity.
Just my opinion. Pumps would be more suitable for sandbox, of course.
