Here I will discuss more things that could make farming better/useful and finding plants.
Wheat Bales:
Filling the crafting grid with wheat will craft a Wheat Bale. Wheat bales are half blocks that have the properties of cloth. Like other half blocks, you can place another to make a full block. Back in the crafting grid, it makes 9 wheat. It's like storage.
Realistic Bread:
You need to craft Dough. It's a shapeless recipe, using 3 wheat and 1 bucket of water. Then you put the dough in the furnace for bread.
Realistic Cookies:
Well, for one, I think cookies heal way too much hunger. You need to craft Cookie Dough. It's a shapeless recipe, using 2 wheat, 1 cocoa beans, and 1 bucket of water. Then you put the cookie dough in the furnace for bunch of cookies. Bunch of cookies should heal 2.5 hunger, and be one whole item.
Realistic Cake:
You craft dough again. Then you craft frosting, a shapeless recipe using 2 sugar, 1 egg, and 1 bucket of milk. Then you combine them both, another shapeless recipe, for Raw Cake. You then put raw cake in the furnace for the cake, and eat!
Apple Trees:
After all these updates, apples are still hard to find! Apple trees would be basically normal trees with a lighter yellowish texture, and along with apple tree saplings, there would be a chance for an apple dropping too!
Swamp Tree Saplings:
People may want to replicate the swamp trees quickly. They would be like other saplings but grow the swamp trees.
Palm Trees:
Sometimes deserts look bare, and beaches don't look... "beachy"... enough. Palm trees could grow on beaches. In deserts, they are as common as normal trees in plains.
Bananas:
There is a chance that palm trees would drop bananas. They would heal 1.5 hunger.
Pear Trees:
Just like apple trees, but they drop pears. Pears would be like apples but with a different texture.
Better Golden Apples:
Golden apples are hard to craft, I think gold ingots should be used, not gold blocks. And if not already, they should be able to be used in alchemy too.
Pumpkin Pie:
Like cakes. To craft a raw pumpkin pie, craft 1 dough, 1 pumpkin, and 2 sugar. Place, and eat with 4 slices, each healing 1 hunger for a total of 4 hunger.
Normal Pumpkins:
Pumpkins don't grow carved! They should spawn uncarved. Just placing one in a crafting grid should carve it.
Edible Burnt Cactus:
The ability to eat it. It would heal 1 hunger.
the wheat bales should have a use when placed, but should only require 4 wheat to craft. Animals should eat part of it (like cake, with 4 uses hence 4 wheat to craft) and go into love mode, and won't eat it again for like 5 minutes after it goes out of love mode. this way you can 'auto breed' animals without being present.

Pumpkins should spawn uncarved like you said, but you should have to break it with a sword, and then it drops a pumpkin and 4 seeds.
There also should be apple juice! craft apple with glass bottle

1- Finish the mod API
2- Give brains to villagers (make em more usefull)
3- Add ambiance: birds, fishes, bugs, crabs on beaches, monkeys in jungles...
4- More plants! Aquatic, any fruit tree, bushes....
5- Ambiant sounds!
