*Sigh* It's a matter of taste on what texture pack you're using, if at all any!
Unless minecraft gets an official HD texture support i don't see anything like this happening on a server. Also i do get creeped out by that sking to be honest, it's just the way the eyes are placed and how the pupils are looking.
I do agree that with a HD skin it takes creativity and you really need to want to make it... But you don't need skills or anything. I just need to say that skinning is art in all resolutions no matter what, and i leave by that.
i too am kinda creeped out by the skin, it was a request.
that is his taste, and partially mine too, though please, please dont hate the idea because of the skin, that just doesn't make any sense, like me not liking obama :sad.gif:

I do somewhat like the idea, the problem is I don't know how it will effect others in SMP. Many people can barely handle 16X16 so when someone struts along rocking a 512X skin, their computer crashes.

yes, this is a problem BUT remember its 1 512 texture, that wont cause any lag
in a chunk there are 100x as much blocks, but they are 16 bit.
so, unless there are 100's of people on one sever at the same place or the person has a dos computer, lag aint gonna happen :biggrin.gif:
I do agree that some people would like this, and i would accept the skins but i'd always have my nice old 16 bit skin :biggrin.gif: Also you didn't notice my previous post?
Add a plain no option, just because pepole dont like a idea and dont think it should be added
dosent mean they are a douche and only care about themself's. It means that they dont like the

Like I said before but the comment looks like its dead now
You can't just say, "I want support" and have it be that. You should tell about what happens if someone doesn't want to see them. How would it handle that? Would it automatically scale down the skins? If so, who would do this? Would it cause extra lag for Mojang, who already has a ton of people and different skins, or would it cause extra lag for the person's computer, who obviously needs as much performance as they can get? What about for the textures in between x16 and x512? You really need to give more details, and until you justify the extra work, I don't support.

"how far are you willing to go to destroy my idea?"
*snip* I don't like super realistic texture packs either but i like HD ones take the HD version of Dokucraft or (my personal favorite) Gerudoku they're HD but not realistic in the slightest.
:biggrin.gif:
Oh yeah... I was thinking like Misa's realistic pack, and the like. I do like the 32x32 packs, because they do add that room for detail while not seeming like Picasso on an etcha-sketch.
The faithful pack is a great example. It keeps the minecraft feel, while giving things a cleaner, more detailed look.
*snip* and no they dont look better, mine is 512x512, there's 16x16. so mine is superior.
*snip*
more doesn't always mean better. Two tumors is not better than one. And Notch made the game 16x16 and blocky for either the ease of programming, or to give it a retro feel.
edit: could you just set the poll to yes, maybe, i don't care, and no? Three yes options, and one asshole no option are not going to portray what people feel. I vote "no" for now, because there is no "I don't care" or "as long as there's an option" choice.
DawnOfNights, during this whole thread you've been saying that you're automatically right and people who disagree with you are automatically wrong. Stop acting immature and actually look at it form others' point of view.
Have uber-HD skins would take away from Minecraft. It's okay if you like HD stuff, but don't try to force it on others. Anyways, it would cause lag, and trying to make it photo-realistic when it's a bunch of blocks doesn't make any sense.

1.I like being immature on the internet, it is f-u-n-n-y
2.I did not disagree with everyone, only those who opinions dont make any sense that there should not be SUPPORT for hd skins.
3. i dont see how one person with an hd skin can effect someone else, its 1 texture vs a thousand(the blocks that are rendered) so yea, i dont see how +-10 people at the same area with 512 skins could cause lag, but 70+ people could, and lets be honest, is there really a server with 70+ people at the exact same place?!
4.How am i forcing this on you, explain that? i did not say "WE ALL WANT HD SKINS CHANGE IT NOW!!!" i asked for SUPPORT: meaning optional, you dont have to use it, but others might wanna
First, being immature on the internet is one of the worst ways to get your idea supported. Second, you have given no consideration to anyone that needs more performance, just saying that the lag will be "tiny." I get less than 20 fps when I play with minimum settings and on normal view distance, and I know there are people who get a lot worse, but I still wouldn't want the extra lag from this. The only way I would support this idea is if you actually gave another option for people who don't want to see the skin, and justified the extra lag/storage space that it would take. This would be okay as a mod if someone wants to make another website just for it, but not for something in the vanilla.

ummmmm that's kinda what this entire discussions been about and about 3 posts up it was said that this would be an option as in it would be a setting you could turn on and off. (as in weather you see HD skins or not) :biggrin.gif:
Read my first post, earlier on page three. Who's gonna convert the skin?
I think I have a way to resolve this that's fair to both sides.
First off, if someone is going to go through the effort of making a 512x skin, it probably wouldn't be that hard to create a scaled down basic 16x, even if it looked rather bad.
Next, allow players to upload 2 skins to use. 1 has to be a 16x, it defaults to Steve if one is not uploaded. The second can be any accepted size up to 512x (or whatever the commonly accepted *maximum* resolution is I haven't seen more than 512 though).
Now players can upload their higher res skin, and then have 3 options for the 16x skin.
~A low res version of their main skin.
~A random 16x skin
~The basic Steve
Finally, an option to control the maximum size of of player skins you can see. You can set yourself to no high res, so you'll always see the 16x skins, 32x so if someone's high res is 32x or lower you can see it, but no higher. 64x you can see up to 64 x skins etc. 128x, 256x, etc. work the same way. The last option is view all which shows the higher res skin by default. This is so people who know how much there comp can handle can tweak what they see.
Of course that last bit may just be over complicated, and a simple "Show Higher resolution textures, Y/N?" option could be used instead.
Also that high res skin on the first page is terrifying o.o
^^ The only real drawback I can think of is the extra storage that has to be allocated for people to have 2 skins. Also I worded part of that other post weirdly >_>
HD texture packs aren't even officially supported, dom you think Notch is gonna do this? The whole point of Minecraft is for everything to be low-res blocks, not uber-hd.

i also apologize for my "Snobby Better than you" attitude, it was totally immature and inconsiderate.
