I have something to propose, something I find would be somewhat aesthetically pleasing. I'd like to suggest two things, a mist block and a lake biome.
The Biome
The biome is basically as it's name describes, a lake. However, the lake is surrounded by hills. It is rather large, maybe having islands in the middle. The islands are grassy, covered with trees, and maybe a little bit of stone on them. Islands can vary in size, like in ocean biomes only scaled down to fit the lake. Lilypads can spawn in lakes, and the color is about 442BE3 in hexadecimal format, or for those of you who don't have the time to Google it, about yay bluish: http://www.color-hex.com/colorimg.php?color=442be3
The Block
A mist block is an aesthetic-purposed block, unique in a way. It is grey, semi-transparent, and pass-through. A low, one-block-tall mist can be found at ground level in the Minecraft morning, on lakes it can reach about 3 blocks high, and it can spawn in swamps at any time up to 5 blocks high. It can be turned on/off along with other generated features, such as Strongholds and Villages using the button at world generation.
In creative mode, it can be placed anywhere and does not decay unless in direct sunlight.
Mist is unique in the sense that, the farther you look into it, the darker and less-transparent it gets, like with Fog. Like water, it will decrease the light level every block down.
And why have these?
My reason is simple. I want a castle on a lake. Just seems nice to me. I also think it could make for excellent maps for others.
Mist is for other aesthetic purposes. For example, when used in a map it can creep out what would have originally been a boring old cave, or even hide things in a Minecart track if you build one properly. I could also generate amazing screenshots with mist.
Let's get a picture of a general idea;
Imagine the above in Minecraft form.
I apologize for a lack of actual pictures from Minecraft, as my laptop is slower then an old person's ballet recital when using Minecraft. Should the topic take a liking from some, I may attempt to replicate a mist block texture and a lake biome map.

Maybe carry mist into a bucket, spreads around wherever placed for 12 or so blocks?
