I haven't really thought this through, but I know MC has been a bit boring for me lately and even with the 1.8 adventure update, I still find the game a bit lacking.....Granted, you have building whatever you want, but it gets to a point where even that becomes repetitive and tedious.
Therefore, I think some basic things should be added to spice the game up a bit, like bosses and npc quests. Also, an in-game currency that could be used for buying items and whatnot from NPC shops. Rather than spending hours chopping wood while dodging creepers and other such creatures, think how nice it would be to do some monster hunting, loot them, and sell their drops for money(or just loot money off them) to buy your wood or bricks, or weapons. I can see how this might dampen the fun in scouring your land for that elusive clay on the banks and mining for diamond, however. The only way around this I see is to make the rarer items cost a real ****load of money, but nevertheless, it would be a neat feature!
As for bosses, I feel this would dramatically increase the fun of the game. I imagine terraria style bosses, where you get certain items, or perform certain tasks to summon them. Or randomly generated massive structures/mazes with a boss in the middle?
NPC quests kinda speak for themselves. Perform random quests for the NPCs such as collecting various items, ores, etc. or killing mobs and then get money/items in return. Pretty basic but it would give you something do do and add more of an rpg aspect to the game.
