My idea is to have multiple .jars at once, one for every world. This way you could have a certain mod for one world, a bunch of mods for this world, and a vanilla world, all at the same time. In theory, you would need as many resource folders as well as some mods edit that too, but that shouldn't be too hard. It would look kind of like this:
(contents of the .bin folder)
minecraftworld1.jar
minecraftworld2.jar
minecraftworld3.jar
(rest of the .bin folder if it needed to be cloned)
(The resources folder could look like this)
resourcesworld1
resourcesworld2
resourcesworld3
(rest of the .root)
I like this idea, especially for the current state of minecraft. Independent of switching between worlds with mods, it would great to just be able to switch between the different 1.9 pre releases, and 1.8 stable. It would allow me to have fun with 1.9 in single player, but switch back to 1.8 when I want to play on my server.
To simplify it, the .jar and resources folders could simply go inside of the world folder, so it can remain being named "minecraft.jar" and "resources"
There's a client mod already made that lets you choose between different .jars at the start up of the game. Can't remember what it's called though. It's on the forums I know that much.

more over, notch needs to add built in modding functionality to minecraft. a menu such as the texture pack one will let you enable and disable mods. also, if there is a way to save combinations of mods, and then assign each map a combination, then it would work.

I wouldn't use it. You'd need to replace and rename the .jars for every world file for pre-releases. Plus, it would give me night terrors to think of scripting a way to force update. Given my use of quite a few worlds at once, I'll stick to the single minecraft.jar file, thank-you-very-much.

Or, one could just download the current .jar from a link notch would put up, create a world, then put the .jar and the rest of the stuff in that folder. Also, off topic, but one post ago I was a secret rank :biggrin.gif:.

I know I would use this, would anyone else?
