Here's an item I think should be added for challenge map creators: the random treasure chest.
It would be a chest that after being placed has no fixed contents until a player tries to access it for the first time. When a player opens it the random chest would stop being a random chest, and instead be turned into a regular chest filled with random types and amounts of standard dungeon loot.
That means if 10 players all open up the same save file and all open up the random chest each one will get a different selection of items when they open the chest for the first time in their game.
The random chest would look exactly like a normal chest. And it wouldn't be craftable in normal survival mode gameplay. Instead you'd have to use item hacks, or be in creative mode. It's meant solely for challenge map creators to make for other people to introduce a truly random loot element.
Sounds like a great idea, although it reminds me of the Terraria kind of chests you find that have completely random items like torches food weapons etc. is that something you were explaining?
I haven't played Terraria. Essentially they'd work just like dungeon chests already in the game. They'd have a random amount of stuff like iron/diamonds/saddles/cocoa beans/redstone/bread/etc. just like current dungeon chests. Except their contents wouldn't be determined until a player tries to open it, so people could get different items when playing the same map.
Its too impractical to creat and not have it be implimented into the game. Especially if its main purpose was just for custom map makers.
But I do love the idea of random loot in chests. I think it would just be way more practical for people making custom maps to add the loot themselves. And the random chest would have to be an entity, which makes it more difficult to impliment

[quote=Badgerz]You have to keep in mind that people are stupid.
[quote=Catelite]Just because you don't understand how something works, doesn't make it broken or pointless. >_<
