I am really looking forward to the enchantment thing and i got the idea. What if notch added all kinds of elemental powers to enchanted weapons. Unless these aren't already being added. It would create a challenge to get them but it would also be fun. And the cool thing is that it stays Minecraft related.
Swords
redstone + sword = sword that shoots fireballs
water + sword = Sword that freezes enemies
Sword + Ender Orb = Grab-n-throw sword. (The player holds down the mouse button and grabs enemies. Then releases to throw them)
Bow
Arrow + Redstone = Fire Arrows (catch enemies on fire)
Arrow + TNT = Explosive Arrows (make 2x2x1 holes in the ground. Like the Ghast bombs)
Arrow + Ender Orb = Arrows that fly through blocks.
You likes? Of course it could be more in-depth but its a start.
The four horsemen of the Apocalypse. Conquest, War, Famine and Death. Though i come last i am always there. I am the most feared. I am the end of all. I am Death. Redstone to catch on fire would be overpowered, LOL
Maybe blaze rods can be used to make fire arrows, (and fire swords) but then Notch would need to add an icy snowy Heaven skyland area with lots of gold that has similiar enemies who drop frost rods instead which can be used to make freezing arrows and swords

Enchantments don't work that way.
Enchantments allow you to already have powers. Feather falling, damage absorption from enemy attacks, double power, possibility to regain tool health, ability to mine whitestone from the end.
You pay for these powers with the levels you gain. I think that's a perfectly fair trade. Doing what you suggest automatically allows a person to be on Minecraft for about 30 minutes before having the strongest possible arsenal.
Basically it kills any sense of random or toughness with enchantments, thus making the only hard part about them getting the 5 diamonds required to make the table.

Taken the words from my mouth
Maybe if you add 100 levels + the item sure but so far WAY to OP

I could not agree with you more.
