A few suggestions for positive effects on the player.
Ideas proposed as-is
Well rested: For the first minute after using a bed, running does not decrease your hunger level. Taking damage removes this buff. In practical terms, this lets you get from your base back to where you were working a bit faster.
Berserk: After killing two monsters within 10 seconds of each other, all your hits become critical hits. The buff is lost if no monster is killed within 10 seconds. Passive monsters (pigs, sheep, cows, chickens) don't count. This would make combat a bit more thrilling for some players, giving an incentive to take on lots of monsters at once.
Unburdened: Your movement speed is increased by 30% when 3/4 or more of your inventory is empty. This includes your hotkey inventory slots but not your armor slots, so you could only have nine or fewer items in your inventory to get this benefit. This would be useful to explorers who like to 'rough it' and bring only a stack of food and a few tools, planning to carve what they need out of the land when it gets dark. It would also be useful after you die or when you first start a new map.
Waterlogged: If you spend more than 1 minute in water, you get this buff. This increases your swim speed by 20%. The buff remains for 10 seconds after you come onto dry land, during which time your land speed is reduced 20% while you dry off.
Ideas that need work
NOTE: The following ideas are "alpha" ideas and need refinement and additional input to be viable. Saying they are 'bad' is not input, just being rude. If you think it won't work, provide input on what it would take to be viable, or how it could be adapted into another idea.
Acclimated: If you spend more than three day/night cycles without being exposed to sunlight (Light level over 10), your vision in the dark improves. This is a mostly cosmetic effect of increasing the brightness level, but could possibly include giving enemies a slightly glowing outline to represent your ability to see better in the dark. If you have this buff and are exposed to sunlight, you lose the buff and are momentarily blinded with a lens flare effect.
Starving: If your hunger bar is depleted and you are taking damage, your attention focuses on food. This gives food monsters (cows, pigs, chickens) a glowing outline that you can see through trees and dirt. Any chest that has food in it will also have a glowing outline.
Well thought through and it sounds amazing! An upvote is called for! However, Acclimated should probably get tweaked so it doesn't take so much to aquire. Perhaps just 1 day/night cycle? Or two if that sounds a bit OP. Or you could have it so that the effect increases the longer the period you spend in the dark (So we could have players constantly in the dark with extremeley hightened sight - like daredevil :tongue.gif:, and the way to defeat them on SMP would be to expose them to the light, essentially allowing a person to become a hostile mob)
I like it. The only one I have a problem with is Berserk because it would be very easy to chain together multiple mob kills with all critical hits and a diamond sword. It shouldn't last quite as long, or at the very least you can't get the buff again until after it runs out.

That is true, but how often do you face more than two enemies? The only place it would really take effect is running around at night, or carving your way towards a monster spawner.
