Auras are potions which have an aesthetic effect.
Basically, an aura potion is a potion which places a shimmer around you of a certain colour.
Potions are made as such:
1. Netherwart.
2. Selected dye is added to the mix.
3. Glowstone/redstone/gunpowder added as required.
What exactly is the purpose of these potions you ask?
Well, when applied to a player/mob, the colour of the dye used shimmers around them, similar to the shimmer effect of enchanting items. This lasts for varying degrees depending on potion strength.
This can then be used in PvP to distinguish opposing teams, to mark a specific player as a prime target (painting the enemy leader red for convenience).
But hang on, what use is it if an enemy hides behind a wall? Well, when combined with redstone, it allows that players silhouette to appear through up to 20 blocks, allowing him to easily be tracked.
