I know that there's really only one time a 'voice' is heard from the character, and that's when they get hurt but... is anyone else tired of hearing that man grunt when they've got a lady skin on? I certainly know I am lol! I'd like to see an option of being 'male' or 'female' for that reason. What does everyone else think?
I would really like to have voices that fit different types of skins for both genders. Although if it was simply done by skin-artist I can see how that might get out of hand because not all skin-artists can be voice actors. :tongue.gif: However, there could be an option similar to old RPG's like Baldur's Gate and Might & Magic where you could select your character's voice from a variety of pitches, tones and flavors. Options like: Male 1 (arrogant), Male 2 (brutish), Male 3 (old), Male 4 (stealthy)..etc. and have similar options for females.

My character jumps higher than your character.
Your awareness of your surroundings rivals that of Dora the Explorer.
While a female option certainly would not hurt the game, it would however not really affect the gameplay very much. Nobody ever complains about other video games that force you to be a man or woman, and Minecraft shouldn't be any different.

I think the biggest difference between a game that forces you to be a man or woman and minecraft is that, minecraft isn't forcing anything like that. If it was, custom skins probably wouldn't be supported like they are. There also isn't a story-line or anything of the like in minecraft yet, and most games that force you to be a certain gender do so for this reason. So, I say, in a game that promotes customization and expanding upon the original content(which minecraft most certainly does)then why not have an option for different voices?

I personally like this idea a lot! It separates the different voices idea from choosing a gender idea completely. Perhaps even it could end up not based on skins, but like custom skins. There could be an option for a custom voice file maybe. And that way anyone could make a voice they wanted to hear :smile.gif:
This is one of the most-suggested things on the forum, and people still say it isn't worth adding. It's a shame.
It wouldn't be complicated to add, just save a single is_female binary value along with the player's skin, and play a different sound file saved in the .jar accordingly. Lots of female and male players support the idea, and it'd be great for roleplaying.
I think the reason it's not a topic of debate in most other games is that most games do offer a male/female choice, unless the protagonist is a preconceived character who follows a constructed path. Mass Effect, Pokemon, Oblivion... Nowadays, if it's an open-world, non-linear or sandbox game, you get to choose your gender.
It might not add directly to the gameplay for every player, but identifying with the character whom you play is an important part of most players' experiences.

Would also be funny a male skin with female voice or female skin with male voice... lol
