yeah this would be very usefull for me when i make my underwater/ground houses.
i have to dig a light hole to the surface witch always end in flodding ;_;
yea, houses and other buildings always end up really dark unless you put a crap load of windows o.0 so yea, either a lightbulb block or a fire block would be nice.
I thought about that too. Like if you were to put colored wax paper over a flash light in real life, the light would turn that color. Same thing could apply if you placed the block, then made it with the ability for people to place a color onto it from the cloth selection.

I've thought about this too, and I fully support it. I'd ruin the skill of making light shafts, for sure - but the potential gains would be awesome. I've got an underground road that could really do with some lighting - gold blocks just don't cut it.
Light, beautiful light. Phenomenal idea. But if they were light bulbs or lamps I would hope that they were like flowers. They took up a block but the actual image was small and light bulb-shaped.

Give me a box and I'll think out side of it. Give me nothing and I won't think.

There should be a block shining down and one shining all around so you can make lamps/spotlights/ceiling lamps etc etc.

I give it 3 thumbs up.
It should be a single ray downwards - far easier to control and implement.
I'd say about 6-12 tiles actually. o.O
That's just me though.
Great tool. Now I can finally make Hell!!!! Bwahahahaa.
Or some underground city reminescent of hell.
