This is just a simple suggestion, but I think it would look really cool. I was looking at the Dokucraft customizer pack and saw they had different options for colors of glowstone that all looked very cool and I thought, what if minecraft had all these different colors for glowstone?
Now, I see how this could make acquiring a particular desired color of glowstone difficult, I think it would be pretty simple to just make glowstone more common in the nether. Or make it outside of the nether. For example different colors of glowstone depending where you are. Red glowstone and the original yellow could be found in the nether. Blue glowstone in ocean biomes or at the bottom of lakes. Green glowstone in pine forests. Purple glowstone would be cool, but I can't really think of a good place to find it. Maybe deep underground in caves? Or around natural obsidian?
and then white glowstone in snow biomes.
It's a very rough idea overall, but it sounds like it has potential to me, at least. What do you guys think?
This is a pretty good idea; there's something kinda like it in the Neon Mod, but making a different colored glowstone for each world (one color for The End, one color for The Aether, etc.) would be cool. I've not actually used the Neon Mod and can't tell from the screenshots if they use a different light color for each kind of light, or if they all cast white light.
A workaround that I am sure works, you can put a torch or glowstone behind colored glass from a number of mods (I like Syrup's) and it acts as a filter for the light.

Yeah, I meant to say that XD
Kinda pointless if they only LOOK different right? Gotta have different colors of light.
