Add a laser pointer to the game that causes a red line to be seen and can be used in SMP to indicate a direction. No more standing on top of a ledge and saying "There", "where?", "Over there?", "OVER WHERE??".
It could also be used in either PvE against mobs or PvP against players to cause a blindness effect. This could be used against mobs to cause them to lose track of you for a few seconds. Examples would be that creepers, zombies, and spiders would stop approaching you (since they no longer know where you are) and skeletons would stop shooting you (since they can't see you). Alternatively it could cause a creeper to start it's explosion early (kind of silly but imagine it as you were heating it up).
In PvP it could be used to temporarily blind the other player, but I can see this becoming obnoxious (so maybe not).
Sample Recipe:
Iron | Glass | Iron
Iron | Redstone | Iron
Iron | Iron | Iron
Expansion of Recipe:
Make it so that one of the irons (maybe the back?) is actually a colored piece of wool, so that you can customize the color of your laser pointer. It also would allow for servers with multiple people to distinguish who is point at what.
Iron | Glass | Iron
Iron | Redstone | Iron
Iron | Wool | Iron
Laser pointers in a game of mining and swords and bows?
And pistons and electricity (redstone) and TNT? Minecraft isn't a time period bound game...
OT: Decent idea. There is obviously some thought behind it. Unfortunately, many people like the member I quoted above wouldn't like its addition because it's too "modern".

Yea, but they all come from a still relatively early time period. (1900's). Laser pointers seem so out of place, and the same effect can be achieved with placing blocks.

Agreed, but it would make great material for a mod of some sort.
