I know that there are chests to store items but what about cabinets? They can hang on the wall, you can expand them like you would with chests but the still do not hold as much items as a chest would.
You could make the cabinets use 7 blocks of wood and one iron ingot. You can arrange them exactly like a wood chest but put the iron bar in the middle block on the right... Instead of holding like 50 or more items let it hold like 25 or something like that
I know its a bad image quality but threw it together in heart beat.
They should be opened on the side face, so they don't require air above them to open, but on the side. I could really use this. I'm recreating my house in minecraft, so the kitchen would look weird with floating chests.

You can't make metre cubed pieces of rock get jiggy with each other, that's just WRONG.
Very supporting of this. Thought someone would add this ages ago, but no luck. Only thing I can say seems somewhat out-of-place would be the crafting. Skip the iron and just use a chest recipe, but instead of whole blocks, it'll be half wood blocks.

Yeah, more or less it would be for looks but somewhat usable.
