I was thinking about another way to add depth to survival in minecraft. It would make it so that (depending on the difficulty) you need to stay warm to survive in snowy biomes and/or very high altitudes. The hud would slowly show your hearts "freezing" and once all your hearts are frozen, you will begin to loose health. You can craft wool clothing that can help increase the amount of time it takes for you to freeze. Also, everything (except redstone torches and glowstone) that emits light will also emit heat and would have a heat radius. The higher heat level you are in, the faster you warm up from being cold. The heating substances are listed from most effective to least: Lava, furnaces, fire, and torches. Like light, blocks alter the spread of heat. For example, wood and wool are good insilators while stone and glass are poor insulators. If the heat radius of a heat source hits an insulating block, the radius will be amplified in certain areas based off the block's insulation multiplier. The inverse will happen if there are no insulating blocks in range.
Thats all i can think of for now, in you have any ideas feel free to post them, if I come up with anything else, I will add it if it sounds like if its something that the community would like.

I may not be able to create a computer using redstone, but I do consider myself proficient with it. After all, I am better with it than all my friends!
you would be screwed if u spawned in a snow biome lol but awesome idea
You're right, spawn points would have to b canged to never be placed in snowy biomes.
