From what I've seen on these forums, the majority of players like the additions in 1.8-1.9. Some, like me, would prefer to not have some of the new additions, most importantly anything related to magic, enchantments, dragons, potions, cow-mushrooms, etc.
I respect that Mojang can take this game anywhere they want to, and even acknowledge that they are making some pretty interesting updates. But the thing that really made me fall in love with this game was its open-endedness. There was nothing forced upon the player, there was only a mundane world ready to be shaped by the player's mind.
This world is slowly becoming less and less mundane. It seems that every update now adds some new magic-related feature. Most of these can be avoided if a player does not want them, but a great example of one that cannot be avoided is mooshrooms.
I have a proposal. What if Minecraft's current (1.8-1.9) "Survival Mode" were to be split into two separate modes, a "Survival Mode" and an "Adventure Mode".
The adventure mode would be the full game. It would be exactly what we have right now, it would simply be renamed to "Adventure Mode", seeing as the updates being released are focused on the adventuring aspects of the game, as opposed to survival.
The survival mode would be the full game, minus the magic. No dragons, no enchantments, no potions, no mooshrooms, none of that stuff. Just a mundane world, like we had in 1.7.3 and before.
You're probably typing out "Then go play 1.7.3 you tard", so let me address that. While a good portion of the updates in the future would be left out of the survival mode, there will be MANY long awaited features for the most basic parts of this game. I fully expect updates to the weather system, natural mobs (birds, small animals, etc.) trees, world generation, materials, ores, ambient sounds, music, and redstone in the future. That's why just going back to 1.7.3 won't work. These updates would be included in the survival mode.
Sorry for the long post, but I felt that the topic needed a thorough explanation. Feel free to discuss, critique, and bump. There's only one rule for this thread. Don't start raging, regardless of if you agree or disagree with me or anyone else.

Does all the context, story and content do something to our creativity? Do we feel forced to gather stuff for potions or to fight a dragon?
