So basically, the Nether, it may have 4 unique mobs, 2 unique blocks, and dungeons, but to me, it still feels like its missing something. (The reason why I put this all in the same thread is because it's all pretty much for the Nether, and some of them can apply to each other)
So the Block:
So I'm suggestion Cinders. No not those heavy concrete blocks, but those bubbly looking rocks that can be found near Volcanoes. Sometimes, they are even referred to as "Lava Rocks".
How would they look/work? Well, it would look similar to the sponge, but different. It would be red/blackish, and would have a bubbly look to it. There could also be some patches of bright red on it, to make it look like it were still burning a little. Additionally, it would randomly catch on fire, even if it's not near any lava. They would normally be found near lava, but not all the time.
Next is the Particle Effect:
Embers, floating embers. Since we are in the Nether, and surrounded by lava and fire, it would only make sense for there to be some embers floating around. They would basically be bright red/orange balls that float upwards. I know that they have to originate from a block as well, so maybe make it so that they don't originate from every block. (If that's even possible). Perhaps, if Cinders were in the game, they could originate from them.
Finally is the weather effect:
Ash fall, it would occur randomly in the Nether, and cover the ground in ash. Ash would look like snow, except a bit more gray. The ash that is on the floor can also randomly catch fire.
(I know that there have been some slightly similar suggestions for Ash before)
You do not have to agree with everything here, nor do have you to agree with anything.
Adhuc odor plura tulisti imbres ad instar ursi week vetus mauris. Dico, quod grauiter saponem es usura. Oh! Locus est emanio trans! Ahh! Dulcis Jesu, miserere! Egredere! Porcorum! Translate it.
Ashes don't sound all too great, as the red color of the nether is what gives it it's hellish appearence. If it only occured in some areas or as an ocassional event (less common than a thunder storm prehaps?) then it would be a bit better.

Well it doesn't have to be too common, and the ash doesn't necessarily have to be gray.

Except. One. Thing.
I don't like the ash. Nope, nope, nope.
You just lost the game.
