First of all i apologize for my english, maybe it's not that good.
I WANT TO LEAVE CLEAR I'M TALKING ABOUT SURVIVAL AND HARDCORE MODES
Enderman
I see Enderman as a unique mob such as creepers. Both were intended for minecraft and both perfectly fit in this game. What makes them so "minecrafty"? Well, i believe is their interaction with blocks, with the world. This is their main feature.
Creepers explosions make you realize you need to use better blocks rather than dirt to build a house. When i started playing MC i fall in love with them, this unique mob (spiders, skeletons and zombies appear in every game) really scared me (what Notch is looking for with endermans). Creepers have their unique sound, shape and that new idea of exploding like a kamikaze(I LOVE IT!), that's what it makes them popular among players.
When i first saw a new mob coming i was begging for it to be something new! Indeed it was, the endermand really shocked me, i'm impressed with Notch's creativity, enderman fully satisfied me(taking into account it was a beta mob...). The endeman best quality, as i said, is his interaction with blocks, this is one of the creepiest things it has. Obviously it's reaction as you look at him is AWESOME and how he stays passively stareing at you(great work!). But i realised the most interesting thing was find one or two of those in a cave and look at them while they work... (THAT's F*** Creepy), that violet particles flying around them and the way they walk with the blocks in the hands really moves something inside me.
The main point of the post(for those who do not want to read everything): Endermans work with blocks should be improved, maybe making them build some defined structures with variations, or digging tunnels underearth. But for sure, increasing their life and damage just makes them "normal mobs" alike. Make them destroy houses, force players to make enderman traps or build better houses(of blocks that enderman can't move) in order to protect themselves. How about getting to your house and seen a 3 blocks height hole??? you know an enderman is there, that's really Creepy(go find him...). Having the constant fear of a mob wich could break into your house at night...
I leave it for comments, but mainly increasing their life and damage is a poor improvement, while you can leave those as they are and work on their interaction with players and blocks.
New mobs such as blaze are also very normal, i know they are in beta, but really working on the mobs skills rather than the simple fact of attacking or firing fire or flying makes them more "minecrafty" and unique.
I leave a small poll and i wish to have some comments on the topic, in favor or against(please don't post silly things :biggrin.gif: ).
So you want them to actually look for player homes, make openings for creepers, and completely dismantle them? And you put an option on the poll to make them pick every block? Speaking of poll, you make no option to say "I like them as they are".

People build in survival too. And not necessarily in 3 blocks thick walls.

No, they shouldn't build structures. It's your world, not theirs. They can move a few dirt here and there, but not build things.

As I said: not everyone likes to make 3 blocks thick walls and traps everywhere. They want to fight monsters and build at the same time.
BEFORE YOU THINK THIS IS A FLAME POST: Would be excellent for hardcore mode, but NOT survival.
I dunno why Notchie Kins removed herobine and added some thing as creepy as an Enderman. Endermen should be stronger, but have more weaknesses then water Eg pumpkins
Enderman as currently designed are somewhat boring and annoying random noise generators. I like the idea of Enderman that spawn in packs and create specific structures out of the blocks they steal. I was thinking perhaps portals that spawn other mobs into the world or even just creepy obelisks.
Additionally, I think that Enderman should be able to steal whatever they want, but players need an option that's a hard counter. Specifically I'm thinking there should be a new, placeable item called a Ward. A Ward stops Enderman (and potentially other future mobs such as dragons) from breaking your stuff within a zone of protection. This option would let players stumble upon random Enderman in the wilds making dark temples or whatever, but protect the player's own creations.

If you really mind about your structures i may suggest enderman just spawning underearth under a defined height, or making them unable to move some materials like that just making the base of your house with stone bricks, fences or bricks for example will avoid them to enter... For me, survival means survival, you have the creative mode to safely build anything you want... I'm not saying enderman should be breaking as fast as possible your house, i'm just saying that the could take a biggest role on the game. Again, survival is survival if you want your stuff to be untouched go to creative :biggrin.gif:.

First, good idea for them spawning below some layer.
Second, ugh, i hate when someone says "play creative". Survival integrates creativity and combat with perfect balance. Leave total destruction to Hardcore.

Come on, use a bit of logic, if mobs can't touch what you do whats the point in playing survival, it's the same but you've got some spare creatures out there...? No, the idea of survival is making Minecraft a complete game with a need of response to thing that occur in the world, think about it. I also play creatively on survival but in a defensive way, that's the grace of it, doing crazy but useful stuff, if you want to build a mario statue for e.g. go to creative or do it above the ground so mob's can't touch it.
You should be more open to differen thoughts, such as minecraft code.
I'm going to back up Homem Pigman here. As is there are no defense against Enderman. Against creepers you can defend your prized creations with cactus fences or other means. Also, creepers don't just go around blowing stuff up when you're not around so it's easier to control by default.
Not to push my own idea too hard, but as I mention before I think the players need some sort of Enderman defense. I suggest Wards that protect blocks from being moved (or even destroyed?) within a zone. Or perhaps the zone just stops teleportation so the Enderman can't sneak past all your conventional defenses. regardless, if the players have some sort of way to protect themselves and they don't, then they have no room to complain when a Enderman steal their blocks :smile.gif:
i think that the idea of making the enderman more "intelligent" its awesome, cause it makes them more unique mobs, and i want to say this is survival and we should have a more agressive enviroment so that the players could focus on survive, the first night should be difficult, but the first weeks also.
I'm not going to go into what they should/ shouldn't do with blocks. What I will discus is their reaction to being looked at. Now, they snap to look at you, open their mouths, and shake like an epileptic basketball player. I think that when you look at an enderman, they should slowly turn to look at you. They keep their mouths closed until you look away, and don't shake. Also, their teleportation could use some better visuals. A few explosion particles, shrunk and colored purple (like the eyes) would keep the enderman from looking like they just move fast like Edward Cullen and his woodland fairy friends.
