Greetings from hot and sunny Australia,
I was reading through Solaria's Very informative thread relating to the 1.9 features and new content. Havn't seen it head Here.
I noticed that She had added a new section labelled Neat idea Topics for rewards in "the End".
I read through the proposition for a hat written by d3fin3d. You can find the Topic Here.
While I agreed that a reward for "Completing" the game would be a nice cosmetic touch I felt that Hats wasn't the appropriate direction.
So here is my Idea!
Once doing the enormous amount of work that it takes to get to The End, Slaying the dreaded Ender Dragon You obtain an old Satchel. When used the satchel will teleport you into a brand new world with one exception, Your No longer plain old Username but instead something more.
You have obtained a Title and an Achievement.
This Title Would be purly cosmetic and allow for friends to brag. The Title could work in one of 2 ways.
Option 1.
You could progress through titles by continually travelling to the ender, salying the dragon and receiving your satchel. (Further Achievements may also be implemented if so wished)How ever This would be irrelevant to the difficulty in which you played. (example: You would obtain the same title if you did hardcore as to someone who did easy)
option 2.
You Can only Obtain Titles in Hardcore mode. Remembering that every time you "Complete" the game you would start a new world, the further you progress on that one life they greater the title. So effectively Chaining Worlds would yield greater rewards. Death would grant permanently your Highest achieved Title. You would then have to restart your "World Chain".
Example:
Player survives three worlds, earns appropriate Title. Player then attempts again but only survives two. The Title Earned after completing three worlds would remain. You wouldn't be able to de-rank your achieved Title.
NOTE: I have not come up with actual titles as I believe that the team at Mojang would come up with appropriate Titles.
Please Leave comments below and tell me what you think!
But there may be some trouble. I'm no coder but if you get a title, like, 'Sir' / 'Madam', someone could look into the Minecraft.jar files and find that name changing script, and alter it.
Then all Hell would break loose.
Surely we could organise for the titles to be hosted the same way skins are, and by that I mean to your account.
This would fingers crossed prevent such trouble and also allow for Titles to be displayed in SMP :biggrin.gif:
Yeah, seems like a good idea, but people could quiet easily obtain these titles through under-handed methods. What with the amount of inventory editors, flight mods and X-ray tools, people could eaily create a world, almost instantly find The End portal, and beat the Enderdragon with things such as Infinate health cheats. Then repeat it to obtain the highest title. I'd imagine that counter-measures would be hard to devise.
While I under stand that it will be difficult to stop such devilish fiends, generally those that use these kind of cheats simply are not here to enjoy the game and are probably the ones who have cheated through every game they play in some way or another.
And with the introduction of creative mode, there is no real reason to have invEdit or the like.
This being purely cosmetic would also perhaps be a honesty thing. By obtaining the titles you are saying "I've Done this, Look at me". I cant see how cheating to obtain the highest title would reap any self satisfaction or accomplishment.
Then again I am the kinda of gamer who only cheats in the Sims cause I wanted my virtual self to live in high luxury :3
no offense but i hate the idea i think minecraft of a massive world you can edit and make what ever you could imagine with the limited tools . and its kinda silly to regenarate a world for a title? the ender dragons reward should be like ender tooth same strength as diamond sword and 50% more damage to endermen anyways this seems like cod you prestidge and get a better title for yourselF? but no this is minecraft! leave the cod to cod mhm k! :angry.gif: yum bacon
Wow! This is an awesome idea. Which makes me think, why doesn't he put the achievements to the accounts so they stop restarting every time I change my minecraft.jar and making us re-earn the achievements.

Being Purely Cosmetic it would be the players choice to "ascend" or not. If the Player didn't want to proceed to generating a new world, they could simply just go die to Enderman and spawn back on the overworld.
There are many Titles not all of which are CoD that "reward" a player for choosing to start again. Ever Heard of Kingdom of Loathing? Its a text base RPG in which you gain extra insentives for starting again.

I wonder that very same thing at times too. I can't tell you how many times I've earned the "Getting Wood" achievement...
I'd prefer something simpler. If you do something you get the option to use as a title. For example the first time you smelt iron you get the option of using blacksmith as a title. If you kill a dragons you could get the title dragon slayer, etc.
Ideas for titles:
1: 3 times winner - Epic Mining Machine
2: 6 times winner - Magic Mining Drillman
3: 10 times winner - Dungeon Cleanser
4: 20 times winner - Hero of Dwarves
5: 50 times winner - Grand Crafter of Minecraftia
More than 50 is just dumb, you would waste so much of your life.

This Topic is about "the End" or End game rewards. While Your idea is still a good one and has merit, this topic focuses on rewards for "completing" the game.
Perhaps those titles can still be implemented but titles gained for Completing the game will be different as
d3fin3d suggested in his topic, Maybe the first time can be "Dragon Slayer" but a new title each time there after will further reward the player (If they so wish) for continually starting from scratch.

I am a bit confused About your Statement? Can you please clarify?
A thread on this idea has already been made, meaning you're supposed to post your take on that topic to reduce clutter.

As I stated I have no intent with coming up with titles. How ever I agree with a limit cap, mind you 50 is a bit rich.
Perhaps say 20 instead? I mean if you can survive 20 worlds on Hardcore You probably need a bit more then some Title saying how brilliant you are :3

How is each idea to have its own spot light if it is just a comment in someone else's thread? While I agree those who have similar ideas should discuss their differences, I do not think that a new idea on a Broad topic belongs in a comment.
I suppose you've also gone into the 1.9 pre-release section and commented on everyone's take on "How to work Enchanting" telling them to put their ideas into one thread?

Well, yes. Otherwise you get 50 threads, each on their own form of enchanting. This way, the thread gets bigger and bigger, the best ideas triumph, and everybody has a better chance of Notch's attention.

:blink.gif: I would think that having 50 ideas in the one thread would mean that people would only notice the main/original idea and then would have to go rummage through at least 50+ pages to find the other ideas. Even if someone has commented a better idea it would be hard to find if it wasn't say on the last page of said thread.
Ill happily merge my Thread with d3fin3d's If firstly all other threads that displease you are corrected also.
Anyway This Topic is now getting off Topic.
Discription of what could possbily happen to obtain the satchel and there after.
Defeating the Dragon
Once defeating the dragon, you notice something stuck in its teeth. You move closer to take a look and discover it to be an old satchel. A Label on the outside says something in ancient writing. You better decide if you want to look inside.
Upon choosing to look inside.
As you begin to open the satchel and start to feel a pulling sensation. Almost like something is trying to pull you into the satchel itself! You must decide if you truly want to take a peek.
After saying yes to the Are you sure prompt.
You open the bag fully, the pulling sensation becomes stronger. You try to fight the pull but can not. You are sucked into the satchel and become disoriented and pass out.
After new world has loaded.
You wake up due to the sun in your face, all your belongings have been torn from your backpack.. You think to yourself... Not Again!
For anti-Cheat stuff, It could be like Steam and GTA IV with a Mod, Cheat or Hack is detected it blocks the titles or Achievement from be obtained by the said mod, cheat or Hack.

Also GREAT IDEA :3
So your saying it would detect changes in the minecraft.jar and then disable the ability to gain said titles/achievements?

Thanks for you input.
PS: Im no coder either :3
Likewise adding more "adventure" to the achievement tree would be good.

Because black is the new black.

BRILLIANT!
