I thought it would be cool when you first open the game, you can choose wich development phase you can play Minecraft in.
This is the list of different development phases to play in.
Full version
Beta (Pre Adventure Update)
Alpha (Post Halloween Update)
Alpha (Pre Halloween Update)
Infdev
Indev
Classic (Survival Mode Test)
Classic (Post Multiplayer Creative Mode Release)
Classic (Post Single Player Creative Mode)
You won't be able to play in worlds created in other development phases (for obvious reasons).
+1 to you! This should be part of the full version.

I thought it would be cool if the Minecraft website had different clients from each development phase that you can download.
People can play Classic (Post Multiplayer Creative Mode Release) and Classic (Post Single Player Creative Mode) for free.
If people want to play the other development phases, then they'll have to pay. The newer the development phas is, the more they have to pay.
For example, if I register an Infdev account, I can only play the Infdev phase and older, if I register a Beta (Pre Adventure Update) account, I can play every development phase except the full version.
If I register a full account, then I can play every single development phase.
