I think that you should be able to craft gravel into cobblestone, as gravel's only current use is to find flint. This would be done by making a 2 by 2 in a crafting grid with gravel, which makes 1 cobblestone.
So basically, 4 gravel=1 cobblestone.
Well, what other use for Gravel is there? And besides, it would really help with the 404 challenge. :laugh.gif:
The 404 challenge doesn't really exist anymore download-free, 4 gravel for a single cobblestone doesn't really sustain anything later in the game, and being able to craft it makes it too easy to get cobblestone before wood tools.
I'd prefer Regular Hexahedron's idea of being able to smelt gravel into cobblestone. Simple, effective, sensible, and useful.
I'm going to have to stop you there on sensible, you cannot melt pebbles into large stones with an oven. Inb4 Minecraft has floating blocks it doesn't need to make sense. Yes it does have floating blocks, but they are a fundamental part of the game, breaking physics to include an almost useless idea is not worth the annoyance of fans as pedantic as I am.
You cannot melt pebbles into large stones, but you can melt large stones into a much larger stone?
it's more like fusing the stones together... and anyway, isn't it kinda frustrating to have to start out with wood tools?
Maybe, but it just seems too easy to be able to find gravel and make stone so easily, skipping out on a lot of the progression. Plus, fusing stones together by hand doesn't really make sense, even with someone as powerful as Steve, but a furnace makes a lot more sense, even if it wouldn't work IRL.
