Do you hate having to find a newly downloaded world in the middle of all your other worlds? I seriously hate that. I wish Notch would add something like a searchbar.
If you want to keep your old worlds, like I do. Move the unused ones to a folder on their own. I just created a new folder in My Documents and called it Minecraft Backups and I keep all my old saves in there.
Then I move the ones I want to play or do actually play over to the .minecraft/saves folder.
Trying to get games written for windows to work on a Linux machine is like trying to put a diaper on an incontinent buffalo. Sure, you might get it all done, but you'll certainly be left with a huge mess, and it's very time consuming.
I had a bunch of saves going but with all these updates I just move my old saves to other folders like Ratnix. Now I just keep a survival and a creative mode world and just try to complete and do everything I can on survival. I randomly get the feeling of making a new map and starting over and then I delete my previous "completionist" map, why keep it if you know you're never going to play it again?

If you're a small map maker, send me a PM and if it's good enough I'll advertise it in my sig.
