As being an avid electronics buff and previous robotic engineer (F.I.R.S.T. ftw) it takes a large footprint to re-create favorite electronic components in redstone. Some suggestions even if they haven't been already made:
1) Single-bit memory cell that lights like glowstone and contained in a single block. First "on" signal to turn on, second "on" signal to turn off, third "on" signal to turn on again and so forth.
2) 1/2/3/4-tick capacitor stored in a single block. Rather having to use a NOT gate with a few repeaters, a 3x3 clock, and a piston to shut it off.
3) 1,2,3,4,5 clock crystal in a single block. Rather than a 3x3 (or a 3x3 + 1 3x3 buffer) of a variable clock. I'd be happy with a 2x2 clock even.
4) XOR, NAND, XNOR gates in a 3x2 footprint, somehow, someway.
5) Double-length pistons (but with half the pushing power)! :biggrin.gif: Thereby resolving a lot of signal issues.
6) "Hyper" busses or a new breed of redstone that can be stretched insanely far (32 meters? :3)
7) Solar panels! :biggrin.gif:
8) Multi-color cell with the same mechanics as a music box except you change the color.
9) SoC workstation plates that come in 3x3,4x4,5x5, etc. And can be programmed as a micro-version of a redstone schematic plan just like in the full version. It would be a 3x3 plate but have like a 12x12 circuit layout.
I Agree that redstone contraptions should be able to be compacted into like a block or so, Theres a good mod (i hate that i cant remember) that has blocks that represent AND, OR, NOR, Latches and what not. I think it should be added to the game, I like your hyper-bus idea so far, but could u elaborate?
People like to pull the steampunk garbage and want flying this and swivel arm that and automated this..
This addition is not only being built upon by the creators (the addition of the repeater) but should be gone into further with all the stuff you said. People ARE making redstone computers and complex mechanisms and when you add something to minecraft, adding large contraptions or lists of craftable complexes never makes sense, small things like this do..
If no suggesters have noticed, everything craftable in Minecraft is 1 block big with exception of the boat and piston.
I agree, they should add this stuff.
I would think it would just solve scale issues. Have you seen the 4KB RAM build? It's to the point where if you hook it up you won't really get a correct signal because the chunks are out of view (on default settings) and not loaded.
I do not recall exactly how big original vacume-tubes were, I do believe it was a third-meter tall, so if we get to that complexity we will be at 1940's technology ability. Now if we can get to 1970's, that would be epic.
(Yo dawg, I heard you like Minecraft, so we put a redstone logic gate within a game of minecraft within a game of minecraft.)
