I've thought of an idea that would add more tiers to Minecraft's current, somewhat boring tiers (wood, stone, iron, diamond.) Strong metal alloys like bronze or steel could be concocted in a new block, the "forge." It would be much like a furnace, with one fuel slot and and an output slot, except a forge would have two slots to input your ores. You put an ore in each slot, and they will cook into one new ingot! I am not a chemist or anything, so this is probably very unrealistic, but I think it would be a nice little simple addition to the game. Of course, this would call for more ores, (like copper and tin) to be in the ground. I also believe this would make mining very interesting.
And finally, I want to suggest the possibility to create obsidian ingots. I know this has already been suggested, but I have a bit of a twist to it. An obsidian block must be placed in both input slots of a forge to create one obsidian ingot. It would be quite expensive to make, requiring 2 obsidian for every ingot as well as a lot of fuel and a lot of time. Obviously obsidian would be much stronger that diamond, and possibly required to mine a new block in the new dimension, "The End." Also, an obsidian sword or maybe even an enchanted obsidian sword is required to kill the new mob, EnderDragons. EnderDragons would drop the key back home from the End, in the form of a shiny black scale, so they would be very important to kill.
Thank you for reading and feel free to elaborate on the idea and discuss. Goodbye!
Alloys would make so much sense and would be really nifty in the game.
I still don't like the idea of obsidian tools because mining obsidian is different from mining anything else. Once you think about it, obsidian is as common as iron, since lava is fairly common, therefore if there was obsidian tools they would be around the same tier as iron.

Yes, obsidian is quite common, but diamond is not. You need diamond tools to get obsidian, therefore obtainable obsidian is as rare as the diamond you need to mine it with.
Obsidian is actually pretty easy to get, especially in 1.9.5, where lava can be duplicated. The only hard part is the mining....hell, it isn't even hard, it's tedious. That's all.
And obsidian isn't as rare as the diamond you require to mine it. Rarity isn't measured like that. In fact, this would make diamond the same like wooden tools: a tier than only gets a little bit of use before being thrown away, because you can easily get a better tier with it.
And alloys are no problem. PROVIDING THEY HAVE AN USE, which you forgot to include. Always think about all parts of your suggestion, missing the obvious things is bad.
I DID PROVIDE A USE, Dumbass. To add more tiers. I said that in like the first sentence. Also I said the use for the forge is to make alloys and obisidian tools.
