Recently, Nether Warts have been added to the 1.9 pre-release. Nether Warts are the Nether's first plant, but their purpose is obviously not to be eaten.
Smoldurians are not the average Minecraft food. In other words, this not a suggestion like this: "MINECRAFT NEEDS MORE FOOD LOL I'M A NOOB".
Growing on Soul Sand beaches, by the lava ocean, you may find a button mushroom-shaped bush. The leaves are a fiery rust color. The protruding branches are thorny and a dark magenta, like Nether bricks. On the underside of the leaves are Smoldurians, a fiery fruit giving off fire and smoke particles. Destroying one by hand takes a bit, as it's too hot to touch, so you can't collect it. Using shears will collect it instantly.
A Smoldurian is edible. As a rare fruit, it fully restores your hunger upon consumption. Though, there's a catch. Eating a Smoldurian sets you on fire because the core of a Smoldurian is molten magma, burning you. If you have just drank a Fire Resistance potion, you can eat a Smoldurian with ease. You can just eat one in water in the overworld, but remember, the you can't do that if you are dying of hunger in the Nether. Your best bet in that situation is the potion.
You can plant a Smoldurian on Soul Sand. They require light, preferably lava. Smoldurian brambles only grow in the Nether. A bramble starts out looking like a sapling, growing like a tree.
Not much more to say, so what do you think? :wink.gif:

I am meowing at my lung’s fullest. I would even argue that the echo that reverberates back to me is the voice of someone I know…
I'm wondering how it would be possible to eat the thing in the first place if you hadn't just quaffed a fireguard potion though, and how magma can be that nutritious...

Other than that, I think it's nice.

But it makes no sense in a good way, I support.
