I think adding more painting would be cool, or even more uses for dyes. But what would really make dye gathering a lot easier (and also make minecraft look cooler in the process) is adding a blue flower. That means that there would be red, yellow, and blue. The three primary colors. You can get flowers and then without making them into dyes you can combine them and get a new color flower which can be placed like any other flower. It adds color to the game.
The thing is with blue dye though, it fades fast. So that should be a mitigating feature of adding plant based blue dyes. Maybe the wool so dyed fades to white after a few hundred game days (annoying). It also adds the question of what to do with lapis. Bling?
+ if you think blue dye should be called "Woad".

~If I can't be a good example, I'll serve as a horrible warning~
there should be more than one way to get dyes for example green: leaves-cacti-some new grass like tall grass(but not tall grass) its great this idea of more uses for dyes also you should be able to color blocks but to keep the texture just like in real life that when you paint something it doesnt lose the texture(hope you understand)
