Unless something's seriously wrong with you I'm sure you all know that minecraft mining is breaking ore blocks to get more blocks. But why not actually get something else, instead of mining iron and getting a block of iron, mine iron and get a lump or something of iron ore, gold could be the gold nuggets that zombie-pigmen drop, diamonds can be diamonds, coal can be coal, really this topic concerns gold and iron blocks.

Strangely enough this is something I have thought about before. Why are Iron and Gold the only ores you can re-place after you've mined them? (at least without a crafting process like you do with diamond).
I don't think gold nuggets is the way to go for gold, since it takes the smelting process out of the equation, which would also be unrealistic (ignoring the obvious unrealistic elements at play in a game that involves punching trees for wood! :tongue.gif: ). But gold dust in the shape of glowstone dust would possible fit a bit better.
I also don't think this would be a difficult change, since it is mostly graphical... and preventing the placement of gold and iron ore blocks. Easy for a handsome and talented youg team like Mojang (see the flattery... they like that)
This isn't really needed though.. Being realistic isn't Minecraft's strong point, so I don't think this is necessary at all and it really wouldn't effect gameplay for me at all.

If they decided to put in something like hunger and moon phases, then I think minecraft can put actual ores instead of blocks.
