Ok, here's my suggestion thread. This involves the recent events with Endermen being LIMITED to pick up only CERTAIN blocks. If you have any constructive criticism, please keep it mature.
Notch has lately removed the ability for Endermen to pick up any blocks but Obsidian, Bedrock, or some other material I may not be mentioning. Now they are only limited to blocks such as Dirt, Sand, or Simple uncollectable blocks. I believe that this removed a great deal of the FUN with the Endermen and I'd like to give you a few suggestions.
The whole reason Notch nerfed the Endermen in the first place is due to MP servers having Endermen enabled. Wrong move I guess. The Endermen would "grief" the MP houses, and people would be throwing out griefing accusations, leading to abusive banning and such.
People need to realize that with Endermen in the game, they can remove any block they want! (Except Certain Ones). Don't accuse a person of griefing when you know you've enabled Endermen on a server. They don't even usually take more than 1 or 2 blocks from your home, so where's the issue? I believe they were nerfed wrongly, and people just overreacted about it.
My suggestion in this thread is to RE-ADD the block-taking abilities to the Endermen so the scariness and exciting factor from the mob itself goes back up. Without this, I'm afraid Endermen are just as boring as any other mob. All they do is attack you and you fight back. On the other hand, when they take blocks from your home, (on SP specifically), then you KNOW an Endermen did it, and you have a goal to accomplish. It's THAT very feel that makes the Endermen a scary, yet exciting mob in the first place. Multi-Player servers just need to calm their asses down and think twice about a "grief" when they've ENABLED Endermen.
There's my suggestion. Again, If there's any constructive criticism, please don't start a flame war. This is a SUGGESTION thread, and I am entitled to my opinion.
Well for one, Endermen PICKING UP BLOCKS doesn't do anything with combat. Therefore, whether the Endermen Teleport, or have a jesus amount of Health, the block-carrying abilities don't affect the combat, it just creates a sense of "spookiness" when you're finding that blocks from your house are missing.
Seriously though, It seems as if the community doesn't agree because they're too powerful.
Um... ok? What does combat have to do with them carrying blocks? They don't become hostile when they do it, they're passive until you look at them.
Endermen carrying blocks is in it's own seperate category apart from their hostility, so may I ask yet again, why is nerfing that trait necessary?
I'm all for allowing the Endermen to carry almost all block types, but there should be a server option to limit their power.
Before notch nerfed the Endermen, I would just avoid building in the areas where Endermen would spawn. I understand why people disliked the power of the Endermen. It's a similar reason why some want to have creepers removed. While a SMP player can reduce the chances of a Enderman/Creeper destroying your building, it is never completely avoidable.
This irritates a lot of player, but I think that we are all forgetting that SMP stands for Survival Multiplayer Server, and not Unpeaceful Creative Multiplayer Server.
Endermen introduce the new threat of slowly disassembling the walls that protect you from the mobs lurking in the dark. People have to respect this change and learn how to cope with it. (Maybe try building higher/thicker walls?) This game is still in beta, so don't get to comfortable with how things are currently.
Thanks for agreeing with me. It seems that the community only disagrees due to it's power. My question is HOW do Endermen carrying blocks = Overpowered in COMBAT?
The Endermen were a lot more exciting let alone SCARY when they were able to carry all types of blocks.
The reason they got nerfed is because the community didn't want it, and Notch himself realized himself that it was a bad idea.
Right, but the community didn't want it because they thought it was annoying, on top of the fact that It got many people Inadvertently banned from some servers due to it's "griefing". I don't understand why anyone would be stupid enough to accuse another of griefing a home that has Endermen enabled on the same server.
and TBH, notch only did it BECAUSE of the community. He never once said it was that bad of an idea until the people started complaining.
I agree completely i don't like the fact that endermen are so easy to to kill but that will be fixed in 1.9 but the first time i say i chunk out of my house i made a huge wall round my house i was scared but that was one of my favorite maps EVER in my entiretime playing minecraft (since indef if your wondering ) so yah i think ur idea is awesome :laugh.gif:

riends door, breaking it, and letting a creeper in. Unnerfing would be nice though.
