I think fireworks would be a nice addition to Minecraft.
Behavior: These would be fairly small, and could be mounted, like torches, on either flat surfaces facing straight up or from the sides of bricks at a 45 degree angle. They would do nothing until lit on fire. They could be lit by flint, by connecting them to a redstone circuit, or by contact with flame or lava. (If lit by redstone they would launch immediately, if lit in some other way there would be a delay of several seconds.)
Once launched a firework would shoot off in the direction it was pointing with a whistle and then explode in a bright flash with a loud bang. The explosion pattern would linger in the air for some seconds glowing, rather like an actual firework. The color of the firework's flame and eventual explosion would vary with the type of firework.
Crafting: My thought had been that fireworks would be crafted from three components: sticks, gunpowder, and dye. The dyes used in fireworks would be the same as those used to dye wool, and would produce a firework of the same color. (I was thinking of simple, old-fashioned rockets, of this sort: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3310/3430502503_dc5ee3b3b4.jpg )
Potential Uses: Rockets of this sort could be used as signals, or just for fun. Firing many at once, or in interesting patterns, could produce all sorts of visual affects. Also, the ability of hooking them to circuits could allow them to be used in traps, or as automatic signals of, say, intruders.
I must say, that would be awesome! It would be a fantastic addition, if Notch were to add it. I dunno maybe Notch will implement fireworks before the full release of Minecraft. Or maybe when an update for, when the game is "finished" and official, for Minecraft. We all know Minecraft will never be "finished", or for at least a long time.

This isn't an appropriate reply. Go read your own forum rules.

(water+tnt= tnt launcher) I would love to have another use for gunpowder and dye.
Hmm, yes, this would be much less complex than the TNT launcher and also less apt to blow one up.
