One idea I've had in my head for awhile now is the changing redstone "activiation" method. Like say a lever makes redstone stay on forever. Wheres the physics behind that. I think we need water turbine blocks for water going down slopes will create energy. Another idea would be wind turbines where at a certain elevation level they will move on their own and create energy. Radioactive blocks could be used as well by attaching redstone to them. They can even be used to poison water supplies and could hurt things within a certain radius of them. Lava falling onto coal blocks could be a more primitive version as well. It just seems that the button, lever, plate system shouldn't have that much charge. This would also open up a whole new building for specific purpose. A POWER PLANT. That seems pretty neat to me and the more specific things have to get the more difficult it is to survive. Each source could have its own "volatge" or how far energy will travel along redstone and when you add more than one of each source it could double the length. Well thats my idea for today I'll probably have 100 more though soon.

well... if you wanted REALLY realistics, then you would have to rub a magnet against copper then send that thru a wire to what ever you want, but you have to keep doing this forevers. and sure a power plant would be cool, but this should NOT replace redstone; its just simpler and much easier to use and half the time these redstone inventions are on creative. this should be implemented for electric furnaces or other contraptions.

You know, I've been thinking of somewhat similar stuff... and if I had my way with the future of the game, I'd put into the official game some of the ideas found in the "Better Than Wolves" and "Industrialcraft" mods, namely mechanical power (from waterwheels, windmills, and lever operation). The BTW mod does a good job with setting up sort of cool uses for mechanisms in the game without breaking the feel of minecraft (though some things in that mod do... :C) and implements things like windmills and waterwheels in ways that are cool, blend well with the vanilla game, and complement the redstone system (as opposed to replacing it or being redundant!). The uses for mechanical power in the game are for things like millstones, sawmills, bellows, rotating tables, doors, elevators, and I think even pistons. The BTW mod could mesh with the game better, though, and the creator makes some really (in my opinion) dumb aeshtetic and gameplay choices. Anyway, I think there should be provisions made for mechanisms and stuff in minecraft, and they should draw upon the BTW and industrialcraft mods for inspiration.
There is Minecraft in Realism
Your idea is now void.
COME AT ME BRO!
Saying "there's a mod for that" without providing any actual contribution to the thread is against the rules, FYI.
