Buckets take up a full inventory slot. While they have many uses, when you find 5 buckets in a dungeon chest (and yes that was all one of my dungeons' loot chest contained :sleep.gif: ) you'd like to take them with you but just don't have the space.
Here's what I'm suggesting.
Put the bucket in the crafting window, and place any other item with it. Then you have 'bucket of <insert item here> in your inventory.
Rulse/Restrictions.
You must use the crafting box
Whatever you put into the bucket, it's 'locked' that way. For instance, if you put 27 dirt into a bucket, new dirt won't start filling the bucket up to 64. That bucket contains 27 dirt. For maximum efficiency then, it's best to put only full stacks of items inside buckets.

There's really noting more to say about it.
