I always thought that natural disasters in Minecraft would be cool.
EX: Blinding Blizzards in winter biomes
Tsunamis and Hurricanes on tropical biomes
etc
Nope, would just be to much of a hassle... Plus what about newbies? They start day four of there survival and they just get murdered horribly by a tsunmani... Would that be fun do you think?

Personally I'd laugh my ass off if I saw a giant wave carrying cows pigs and creepers my way.

I think perhaps not "disasters", so much as environmental conditions which encourage a sensible design philosophy, for example, sea walls around structures on the coast to keep out a rising tide (sea level rises 2-3 blocks for a couple of days once every 20-30 Minecraft days).
Blizzards, heavy fog/mist, or sandstorms could all be used as well, since you don't need to run physics on them if you use sprites or something, and would encourage people to make "sealed" structures to keep the snow/sand/fog out of their house/base.
Hurricanes would be okay if they only affected say, mobs, players and 'weak' blocks like dirt or sand, again allowing closed, sturdy structures to withstand the winds.
However, I dislike the idea of random full-scale disasters that could just level the place on a whim.

Yes, that does sound fun.
That's why I built an i7 2600k.

Then make the disasters toggle-able (not a word, I know).
