Team Structure
There will be two sides. Each side has 5-10 players. One side will be at the northern tip of a map, and the other side will be at the southern tip. (Picture a Minecraft map a player would hold in their hands, the northern team would be in the middle, all the way at the top of that map, and the southern team would be in the middle, all the way to the south of that map.) For 5 Minecraft days, the northern side cannot cross the border into the southern half of the map. They can venture north as much as they want on their ever-generating map, but there will be an invisible wall to be the horizontal border of the map. This obviously applies for the southern team.
The Goal
Each team will spawn on the first day around a chest containing one diamond. If either team brings their opponent's diamond back to their chest, they will win.
The Build-Up
During those five days, the teams will have to gather resources and fortify their defenses. The opposing sides of the map will appear invisible to each team, so one can't see how to ready themselves for the offensive. They can't waste one minute of their five days, so they must mine, build, and craft diligently. There's basically three or four ways of doing things. A team could spend all their time hunting and looking for minerals to equip themselves with armor, weapons, bows and arrows, and food. However, they could also spend their time building hindering structures and fortifying walls around their diamond. Lastly, there's traps. Arrow dispensers, lava tubes, TNT mines, all hidden around to easily thwart the enemy. Or, a healthy combination of each method would be effective.
The Game
After the 5 allotted days, each side is free to cross the border, and all structures will be visible to them. Now more strategy comes into play. An entire team could wait at their base, all of them protecting their diamond until their opponent exhausts their resources. Or, an entire team could charge and overwhelm their opponents with their shear strength and take the diamond. Or a combination would be sufficient; half the team stays on offense, and half stays on defense. Perhaps one team member could sneak into the opponent's structure while the rest of their team defends? Every method has their pros and cons.
The Rules
1. No person participating can be a server Op, obviously.
2. Mobs will be enabled. (For bow strings, TNT gunpowder, extra challenge, etc.)
3. No mods may be applied to the server without being listed
4. Team members may never switch sides, even if players who have left create an unbalance.
5. The diamond chest will have some marking or texture signifying it's the diamond chest.
Most other rules should be self explanatory...
Good idea? Why or why not? Comments? Suggestions? Sit on Notch's doorstep and demand he implements it?
This certainly does sound fun. Though actual implementation I don't think will happen. Seriously though, someone needs to set up a server for this. :biggrin.gif:
I agree with the guy above completely. Its unlikely it would be added, but its still great. But one thing, in those five days you can find diamond... then you wouldnt know which diamond is which and it would make stuff REALLY hard and confusing for everybody. So either have a different item, like a flag, or make diamonds not exist in this mode

It would be the diamond in the specifically marked chest. The chest cannot be moved, nor can the diamond be removed from the chest.
I wasn't expecting them to add any new blocks, that's why I suggested a diamond, but a flag would be fantastic.
If you guys can find people I could totally host a server for this... I'd suggest bedrock instead of diamonds tho since like TheGeekyCountryBoy said it would be possible to get more diamond...
