I've seen this in so many games, its no longer funny (like it ever was) that minecraft doesn't have it! Checkpoints! Basically you have something that kind of acts like a bed, but when you die, you go back to the bed, back in time in a sense, to the point when you last slept in it, keeping your inventory. Basically you are controlling when you save the game, so if you die by mistake, you can retry it to get a second chance. But to balance it out, you should only be able to use it a certain number of times. Maybe it could be called a checkpoint bed or something. I don't know. Maybe you should be limited to using it once every hour in hard difficulty, 5 in peaceful. Tell me what you think.
if you die five time on PEACEFULL then i dont even know how the **** you can still play dis game without raging
I die a lot when my boat goes into the dock, for some reason I absorb the boats damage. But fortunetally, I die near my spawn (and never have more than a pick, torches, and a map in my inventory when I go in).

Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.
Please click the dragons, they need to grow. Also, my fully grown dragons can be found in my bio.
This idea lets you get your inventory back when you die as long as you don't exceed the number of uses. When you do, you just respawn at the normal spawn. But this could be used as a way to get rare items from difficult-to-reach places. Maybe there's some diamond near a lava pit, and you have no idea if there's lava beneath it. Or maybe you accedentally mine a block that keeps lava from filling the place you're in. This will make sure your inventory doesn't burn and you can still use it. Maybe you can use it so that you don't get stuck in a hole without a pickaxe or something to help you get out when you have an inventory of diamond. There are plenty of times this could be used, but the main idea is simple: it lets you respawn at the same place as you did another time, with the same inventory. Just think of it as a backup for your worlds that you can save in-game.
This would be useful for custom maps, but it just doesn't fit in with Minecraft. Checkpoints are good for platformers and story-driven games, but not for a sandbox.

Yeah, really if your that bad and can't handle any challenge and actual consequences (not to mention peaceful) then you just arn't a person that should play video games.
