I love the potions in the game: the general idea is awesome, in keeping with the spirit of the game, and adds some useful/fun aspects to gameplay.
However, I have a beef with how it is implemented and a suggestion.
My beef is mainly with the the aesthetics and crafting of the brewing stand; the model is too busy-looking and is not really aesthetically in keeping with the rest of the game. Plus, the brewing stand's design doesn't make sense and makes it seem like it was cludged into the game just to give a contrived use for the blaze rod (though I know that's not the case). It looks like a weird hat rack or torture device more than anything that belongs in an alchemist's laboratory. It just doesn't look like it is designed with any purpose in mind.
My suggestion to solve this beef:
Change the brewing stand to look like an alembic and change the crafting recipe of the alembic/brewing stand as appropriate.
I presume the brewing stand is a representation of distillation apparata commonly used in chemistry laboratories and alchemical laboratories of old (i.e. an alembic). If it is, the current design of the brewing stand doesn't make this very apparent. The function of the brewing stand should be obvious from the design of the model and should contain the basic elements of what it does: A heat source, a chamber above the heat source for heating/vaporisation of an ingredient to produce an essence or vapor, another chamber which for collecting the essence/vapor from the heated ingredient, and a channel connected to the top of the first chamber that would lead to the top of the second chamber. Basically, it should be designed to look like an alembic.
I presume that the heat source in this alembic is "magical" to confer magical powers to the potion being made, so the magical nature of the heat source should be maintained in the change of this design. However, this change in design would make the blaze rod, which I take to be the heat source, hard to put into the model while being in keeping with the design, so I also suggest replacing the requirement of a blaze rod with blaze powder or some other nether-unique, heat-oriented, magical, eternally burning ingredient.
This change in design would also make having three potion slots not make sense, but I don't think it would be much of an inconvenience to just have one potion slot. I think this sacrifice is more than worth it since it just makes things look and feel better in the game (at least to me).
So you honestly think that simply because you have a beef, your idea should be seriously considered? Because you don't like how something looks? How presumptuous.

The aesthetics of minecraft are very important to me when it comes to my enjoyment of the game. The brewing stand, in my opinion, is a huge deviation from the typical minecraft aesthetic that makes the game so charming. So, I am making a suggestion based on this opinion just as others on this forum make suggestions based on their opinions.
So, yup. I do think my idea should be seriously considered.
Anyway...
Here's another way to look at it:
When the creators of the game wanted to represent a furnace, they put a block in the game that looked convincingly like a furnace with the all necessary elements represented as simply as possible in a nice blocky, minecraft-y fashion. When they wanted to represent a bookshelf, they put a block that looked convincingly like a bookshelf, also simple in its representation of key components. The same can be said of any other block in the game. I presume Notch and Jeb wanted to represent an alchemical distillation apparatus when they made the brewing stand. I feel the current block that represents it does not look like a distillation apparatus of any sort and doesn't do a good job of representing the bare-essential elements that make a distillation apparatus, let alone in a simple, blocky fashion (too many little shapes going on compared to other blocks!). I suggest that they reconsider how it looks and make it as good a representation of a distillation apparatus as I feel the furnace, bookshelf, and others are for their respective real-life counterparts. By doing that, I feel the brewing stand would be in keeping with the aesthetics of the game.
