Here's an idea to encourage exploration of the dangerous, hard to navigate, easy to get lost in nether.
I suggest adding a recipe to create a "Warp Potion". Drinking it in the nether would send you to the Overworld, as if you had entered a portal at your current spot. It would send you to an existing Overworld portal if one is nearby, otherwise it would create a new portal for you. No portal would be created on the nether side though, the player would just vanish without a trace.
The potion would not do anything if drunk in the overworld. That would probably be a little too powerful. If you get lost on Earth you should be able to use your map or compass to find your way back.
To keep it balanced it should take a little while to drink, so no instant escapes from danger. And it should have a high brewing cost as well, and should probably include a few ender pearls in its brewing since it's established those have the ability to teleport the player.
Thats a really good idea. How long could it take to drink a potion though?
Just a few seconds. Maybe just a bit longer than eating food or drinking other potions. But long enough that you can't just blink out of existence the second you spot a hostile mob.
Perhaps the brewing cost could include lapis lazuli dust as an ingredient. That's fairly rare, and it would be nice for it to finally have a non-decorative purpose.
Plus it's kind of thematic in a pleasantly stupid way. To return to the blue-skied blue-ocean world, you drink a blue potion.
I support this. It shouldnt be able to create portals, it should just get the closest portal near you; no matter how far it actually is.
That way there is a bit more of a catch to using it.
It should have an odd negative effect; like "hunger" that makes your food bar go down a bit faster than normal. Of course it would only last 45-60 seconds. But I think you should have to be "prepared to use it". In said of making a sort of newbie "instant escape" potion. Even if it takes 10 seconds to drink it, it still allows you to get out of the nether too easily

Please stop crying. I can't interrogate you while you're crying.

Perhaps it should deal a bit of damage to the player, the same way ender pearls do when used for teleportation. Maybe 5 hearts? So in addition to being expensive to brew, it'll also deposit you on earth at least half-injured, and possibly in a dangerous place like in a cave or on the surface at night. And you couldn't use it to escape imminent death if you have 5 or fewer hearts, because the potion will instantly kill you.
That sounds better. The main idea is that it have some form of drawback to using it.
I figure a bit of damage and an expensive brewing cost should make it a last resort option if you're totally lost in the nether and don't know where to go. It's not a casual thing to use whenever you want to return.
