How about adding a 2 sec ''Cooldown' after every cast, or you can add a Mana bar so if you cast much spells fast it will get empty really fast
and when its empty you will need to drink a Mana potion *But that does look really much like other magic games :/*
What? You could only apply one effect to any given spell, and wouldn't be able to chain spells with this. All you would get is a small buff to a single spell, but in doing so make it longer and more complicated to cast.
Hmm, I see....The idea seems interesting, yes...And would come in handy for those who prefer to cast only the same spell every time.
I love the idea of spells! But unless you could follow your target while typing, typing is a bad idea. It would never hit anything moving if it locked the camera in place. Instead, your book could have spell slots, one for each spell in the game. You would go into your book and equip a certain spell to your right hand, and it would work like a bow. But if there was a way to still aim at your target while its moving, typing is a pretty good and creative idea.
oooh, I really like this idea. Probably one of the best I have seen. =)
Hmm, maybe there could be different lengths of the incantations to spells (Kinda like the anime bleach if you have seen it), so if you typed the entire thing such as, in continuing your example, you said jgkfdjjfkjklrfeeijfkfdjkeend, it would come out with a REALLY REALLY powerful spell. But if you just said end, it would be fairly weak.
Obviously this still goes along with the spellbooks and all. I am not sure I like the idea of the books having durability though, it seems like it would make this too difficult to use, as the typing will already be a big problem to many people. =/
The one part of this I would be worried about is when people use it for out-of-combat daily stuff, such as using a fire spell as a complete replacement for flint and steel. Also there is the simple problem of how would people know what to type? I think having it written in the books would work pretty well.
Anyways, awesome idea! You have my full approval/support =)

I am sorry I am just against the glyphs around the worlds idea. What if in spellbooks you could combine glyphs into spells, and glyphs could be obtained by drawing complex 3D shapes with different blocks, connected by tapping in sequence with a wand? Or something?
You would not find Glyphs EVERYWHERE, and they would be rare.

That is true indeed, that's why not too long ago, I added the option for the spells to follow whatever enemy was at sight at the moment of entering the casting position until they hit either the enemy or a wall in between.

Well, yes, it is true, a handful of people do have troubles typing, but there are other aspects of minecraft which also seem to present difficulties, but when one works with it, one becomes much more skilled at it...And besides, it's possible that Minecraft even helps people develop typing skills was this idea to be included, so, if you're a bad typer, stay away from complex magic.
Well, spells are quite rare already, and to think, the Fire spell could just as easily be considered an upgrade of flint and steel, which would be very useful UNTIL you come across the very useful fire spell.
Like I mentioned in the thread, if while you are in casting position you press the left mouse button, the spellbook with the list of spells, their chants and descriptions will be openned.

Wait, did you think it would only work on one spell? I think I worded it wrong, they would work on a single casting of any spell, and could be used any number of times.

How is it that much different than the system you're proposing? You're basically just casting a spell that slightly alters a normal spell you have to then cast. If you mess either chant up, you have to start over, and it would probably double the casting time of any spell you modified.

Sorry about the late response, and I'm between tasks right now so I couldn't give your idea much insight, but I've read it fully now.
Well, it'd be hard to determine in what way is each sepll altered, but at the end it isn't so bad, I apologise for my previous comment regarding it, I mixed it up with another idea.

And then every game had mana. :dry.gif:

Then no.
Thanks for your time, though.
Could you please explain why not?
