How about a gravity spell with a chant of PHYSICS that makes the block it hits subject to gravity. It is found in the sky dimension and the Aether? If it hits a mob, player, sand, or gravel, it doubles the gravity it experiences. It has a rarity of .
And a Modify spell spell with a chant of MOD{item} where {item} is what you want it to become (only blocks you can get in your inventory). It will turn the block selected into what you want. Only found in the Ender. rarity (diamond equals 5 gold).

I do find those ideas appealing, the Modify spell, hwoever, I will have to find a tad too overpowered.
As a side note, the Aether doesn't officially exist, and there's no release date for the Sky Dimension yet.

The modify spell is 2 times rarer than a spell with 5 gold. And this spell is only found in the Ender. Also, technically the Ender isn't in yet, nor is the sky dimension. Also, the Aether mod is an improvement to the implementation in progress sky dimension, not a whole new dimension like people think, so that is why I put in Aether.

Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.
Please click the dragons, they need to grow. Also, my fully grown dragons can be found in my bio.

Regardless of how rare it is, whoever finds it just as easily cleared minecraft forever.

Maybe using it should eat up hunger and have a time period where it counts as no spell, even if you have it (time displayed in the spellbook, 1 minute seems good).

maybe a potion with a lot of ingredients has the potential to give you wizard powers with which you could cast spells? because in my opinion the crafting recipe for the spell book is a little too lenient. so to use the spell book you would have to have drank this potion so it isnt so overpowered in stuff like smp. just make a book get some redstone and etc. BAM able to pwn your ass with spells
For some reason this made me think of wordcasting mechanics in RPGs... That said I think some modifier words could be pretty cool. You'd still need to find them, then you could type one (and only one per spell) when casting a spell, hit space, and cast the spell like you normally would. They could increase the speed, AoE, duration, etc of the spell.
Hmm i like this idea really much, only why not make a wand to? you just keep your book in your Inv
then craft a wand
= .. Diamond
and = Stick...
And after like 50 spells it breaks and you have to make another one. And you have to wield it to cast, and also have your spell book in your inv (Otherwise you can't cast)
:smile.gif:
I like the wand idea, but not for always casting, but ratjher to make spells stronger.
Besides, if it was required for casting, it shouldn't have a limit, because casting is pretty complicated as it already is. Thanks, though!
Not too bad :smile.gif: although, I'd have spellbooks be craftable items that cast the spell themselves. For example, you get a Fire Spell Book. If you hold that in your hand, and then left click, it would cast the spell and reduce the book's durability.
To craft the spell books, you'd simply craft it with a potion/with potion ingredients? Rarer spell books could be found. You could potentially repair spell books somehow, perhaps by spending XP, so you can continue to use a spell?
I actually had a similar idea with staffs rather than books.
While original and interesting, I'm not sure I'm fond of the idea of typing out chants. I feel like it would be more effective if spellbooks were made using difficult-to-reach glyph-blocks (kind of like you proposed) and each book allowed for a single spell. The spell could be activated by holding down the right mouse button while holding the proper spellbook and the spell would take a specific length of time to 'charge'.
Pros
- Significantly easier to implement in the game
- Easier to understand
- Avoids undue frustration from slower/less-competent typers
- Spellcasters have to consider what spells are most necessary in order to conserve space (like tools)
Cons
- Takes away much of the 'skill' aspect of spellcasting (no typing)
- Much less unique and interesting
- Fumbling around with inventory is not fun while you're in the middle of fighting
Another idea is that spellbooks could have a charge that can be replenished with some kind of rare element (redstone, lapis lazuli, diamond, glowstone dust, or even a new element). Each spell use would deplete a specific amount of charge from the spellbook. This idea could also be implemented with the originally proposed idea with chants.

Presicely, and that would also make it too similar to melee and ranged already. Besides, Logically, one book can't contain only ONE spell, now, can it?
This method may seem difficult, but could lead to a potentially good magic system.
I thank you kindly for your feedback.

...That is actually...A wonderful...Wonderful Idea...However, this takes away the difficulty of other spells, as you could prepare the strongets of spells and then go into a place filled with dangerous monsters, then space your way to victory.

What? You could only apply one effect to any given spell, and wouldn't be able to chain spells with this. All you would get is a small buff to a single spell, but in doing so make it longer and more complicated to cast.
Unless

This will die out.

That idea is too simple and at the end, would not make Magic any different from ranged besides an special effect or two.

BUT I love the idea.
lets hope we get magic in Minecraft :biggrin.gif:
Of course, I am sure :iapprove:'d add way more if he accepted the idea.
Thank you!
I hope for the same!
