After October 18th comes around, Mojang has said that they're going to stop development of all new stuff and focus on polishing up the game, by fixing bugs and improving some things. I have compiled a list of small things that I feel should be added to the official release.
If you have an idea that is not on this list, then please post it. I'll check over the posts regularly and add in any good ideas that I see.
Textures for the bottoms of torches:
Right now, if you look at the underside of a torch, the bottom is untextured. This is the case for regular AND redstone torches.
Making irregular blocks more 3 Dimensional:
Take a look at the models for the bed, the door, the ladder, cauldrons, glass panes, and iron bars. They aren't 3 dimensional models, they are simply 2-D boxes with some transparencies. It would looks a lot better if all blocks like this were turned into actual 3-D models, such as how the chest was changed for 1.8. This would give minecraft a more blocky and pixelated feel.
Faster transportation between Dimensions:
Right now, if you want to go to the nether, you have to sit through an somewhat long and obnoxious loading screen and animation. It would be much cleaner if nether chunks started to load up in the background whenever a user came near a nether portal, thus eliminating the need for a loading screen.
Looking through a portal and seeing the other side:
I just think it'd be really neat if you were able to look through a portal and see into the nether. This would only work is the above idea was implemented, as it would require the nether chunks to be loaded in order to use a camera. If you don't understand what this idea is, then think of how you can look through portals in the game "Portal"
