Although with eased oversea traveling we really need a better navigation system. Otherwise I would get lost all the time. Maybe have a better compass that can be set to various locations and you can follow the needle. Current compasses wouldn't work after the first day on the high seas if you sleep through the night.

But boy, do I want this. I want to travel in something other than a wooden tub when going to my cactus farm downstream. The pvp potential alone is enough to make this a worth while mod.

I like this idea but I think there is a danger ships get a bit too big, I definitely think the vanilla boat needs some way of making a better boat though.

How about some sort of cargo boat that can be guided by marker buoys?

I think since this whole better boats thing seems "over-powered?" to some of you guys, there should be some valuable things used to make the parts, as listed:

- Frame (Anything)
- Engine (Iron, Diamonds, Gold)
- Turbine (Iron)
- Sail (Wool)

So, if you have to use VALUABLE items, then it shouldn't be so over-powered, like using everyday stuff...

I think that a compass to point to beacons/markers would be very helpful! (random gold pickaxes)

TOTAL SUPPORT. i was spawned in a world full of water on survival normal, and those crappy small boats should be replaced with something like this. This hould be added!

I would love a simple boat/ raft to transport mobs. Now that we have leads, it would be super easy to tie them to a rail and set sail for a distant land.

its a cool idea, seams perfect. But I think that it would be better if the boats were modular insted of just the whole thing, that would allow more customization and more popularity.

I do apologise if its already been suggested but 68 pages is a lot to read through. Instead of using coal for the steam engine, you could use a block of redstone.

I would adore more viable boats, and I know many who would love to become pirates.

Here is something that I have not seen mentioned: rowing power. What if there was a special pirate mob and if you put a special item called a chain on them and put it to oars of a galley, you could make it row

A block of red stone is an infinite power source, though which eliminates the need for further refueling.

Seeing how horses have been confirmed for 1.6, I think that this should be addressed soon. Welcome to the new age of transportation in Minecraft!
